A Review on Detection of Plant Diseases using Image Processing Technique

Identification of the plant diseases is the key topreventing the losses in the yield and quantity of the agricultural product. The studies of the plant diseases mean the studies of visually observable patterns seen on the plant. Health monitoring and disease detection on plant is very critical for sustainable agriculture. It is very difficult to monitor the plant diseases manually requires tremendous amount of work, expertize in the plant diseases, and also require the excessive processing time. Hence, image processing is used for the detection of plant diseases.

Disease detection involves the steps like image segmentation, feature extraction and classification. This paper discussed the method used for the detection of plant diseases using their leaves images. Agriculture is a most important and ancient occupation in India. As economy of India is based on agricultural production, utmost care of food production is necessary. Pests like virus, fungus and bacteria causes infection to plants with loss in quality and quantity production. There is large amount of loss of farmer in production. Hence proper care of plants is necessary for same.

Solving Image Thresholding Problem Using Hybrid Algorithm

Thresholding is a reputed image segmentationtechnique used to obtain binary image from the gray levelimage. In this paper, histogram based bi'“level and multi-levelsegmentation is proposed using Improved Particle SwarmOptimization (PSO) and Enhanced Bacterial ForagingOptimization (EBFO) based hybrid algorithm. The optimalthresholds for input images are attained by maximizing Otsu'sbetween class variance function. The performance of proposedmethod is demonstrated on four benchmark images andcompared with the existing PSO and BFO algorithms. Anassessment between HA, PSO, and BFO is carried usingprevailing parameters such as objective function, convergence rate, PSNR, and DSSIM.

Role of Panchayats in planning and implementation of Right to Work: A study of MGNREGA in District Budgam in Jammu & Kashmir

The Act known as National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) created a justifiable 'œRight to work' for all households in rural India. This Act renamed as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is an unprecedented intervention by the Government in reforming and reenergizing the (rural) labour market both by way of correcting the prevailing anomalies and in providing livelihood security to millions of rural poor.

In conflict-ridden Kashmir's rural areas that are caught in widespread poverty, vulnerability and lack of basic infrastructure, the launching of the NREGA brought a lot of hope and optimism. As in Kashmir society most of the rural poor are largely dependent on the prospects of agriculture sector which is facing the problems of productivity in absolute and relative terms in contemporary times because of climatic and other environmental and socio-cultural concerns. Thus the promised 100 days of guaranteed wage employment per household per annum at the stipulated minimum wages has not only reduced the rampant under and unemployment in Kashmir's rural areas, but also impacted the stagnant wage structure for the rural unskilled workers. MGNREGA is also a glaring example which has ensured community participation in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (Social Audit).

It also aims at enabling the local bodies to move towards good governance through the transparency, accountability and participatory mechanisms. Even the efficacy of the institutional performance and active participation of the community determine the overall effectiveness of NREGS. However, after more than half a decade of policy implementation the only major available information source about the state '“ the 'œGovernment official figures' '“ do not show a healthy picture when compared to other parts of India and generate a lot of questions and ambiguity, addressing the dearth of ground level literature, which could have explained the myths and realities behind the fluctuating and comparatively low performing official estimates. This paper is a modest attempt in this direction to highlight the feasibility and contextual dilemmas of the MGNREGA in Kashmir with an empirical study of one of the most backward Districts of the Valley i.e. District Budgam.

It also analyses the official figures and their limitations and provides field reflections on some of the limitations in the proper implementation of the scheme. In addition to this it highlights the issues and challenges in the smooth functioning of the Panchayat Raj Institutions in the proper implementation of the scheme. The study has been carried out with a proper scientific methodology, and to elicit the relevant information the researchers have employed non participant observation and interviews with the stakeholders as key research methods. In summation from this study policy conclusions can be drawn based on a general analysis of the set-up, past experience and the findings from the field study

Calibration of Environmental Sensor Data Using a Linear Regression Technique

The linear regression is a linear approach for modeling the relationship between a scalar dependent variable y and one or more explanatory variables denoted X. A linear regression analysis method is used to improve the performance of the instruments using light scattering method. The data measured by these instruments have to be converted to actual PM10 concentrations using some factors. These findings propose that the instruments using light scattering method can be used to measure and control the PM10 concentrations of the underground subway stations.

In this study, the reliability of the instrument for PM measurement using light scattering method was improved with the help of a linear regression analysis technique to continuously measure the PM10 concentrations in the subway stations. In addition, the linear regression analysis technique was also applied to calibrate a radon counter with the help of an expensive radon measuring apparatus.

Performance Test on the C.I Engine by using Different Biofuels

On the face of the upcoming energy crisis, vegetable oils have come up as a promising source of fuel. They are being studied widely because of their abundant availability, renewable nature and better performance when used in engines. Many vegetable oils have been investigated in compression ignition engine by fuel modification or engine modification. The vegetable oils have very high density and viscosity, so we have used the methyl ester of the oil to overcome these problems. Their use in form of methyl esters in non-modified engines has given encouraging results.Coconut oil (copra), Waste vegetable oil, Karanja oil (Pongamia Pinnata) is available abundantly in India.

An experimental investigation was made to evaluate the performance characteristics and overall emissions of a diesel engine using different blends of these three methyl esters with mineral diesel. Methyl esters of these three oils were blended with diesel in proportions of 20% and 40% by mass and studied under various load conditions in a compression ignition (diesel) engine. The performance parameters were found to be very close to that of mineral diesel.

The brake thermal efficiency and mechanical efficiency were better than mineral diesel for some specific blending ratios under certain loads. The emission characteristics were also studied and levels of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitric oxide and hydrocarbons were found to be higher than pure diesel.

A Study of Reducing Harmonic Instability and Reasonable Problems in PMSG based Wind Forms

Unlike conventional power systems where harmonic resonances are coming from passive inductive and capacitive elements, large-scale power electronic systems like wind farms present a more complex system, where the fast dynamics of the power electronic converters may present an inductive or capacitive behavior. Therefore, the interactions between the fast controllers of the power converters and the passive elements may lead to harmonic instability and new resonances at various frequencies.

This paper presents an optimum design technique for the Wind Turbine (WT) inner controllers in a PMSG based wind farm in order to reduce the number of resonances and to mitigate harmonic instability. In the approach, a PMSG based wind farm is modeled as a Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) dynamic system by modeling the high bandwidth control loops of the power converters.

Resonance frequencies and oscillatory modes of the wind farm are identified based on the MIMO matrix. Afterwards, a multi-objective optimization procedure based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to put the oscillatory modes of the wind farm in suitable locations in order to minimize the number of the resonances and to guarantee a stable operation of the wind farm. A 400-MW wind farm is studied in the PSCAD/EMTDC software environment to confirm the validity of the proposed optimum design technique.

Power Loss Evaluation Method for Modular Multi-Level Converter with High-Frequency

There is no common accepted way for calculating the valve power loss of modular multilevel converter (MMC). Valve power loss estimation based on analytical calculation is inaccurate to address the switching power loss and valve power loss estimation based on detailed electro-magnetic simulation is of low speed. To solve this problem, a method of valve power loss estimation based on the detailed equivalent simulation model of MMC is proposed.

Results of valve power loss analysis of 201-level 500MW MMC operating at 50Hz~1000Hz are presented. It is seen that the valve power loss of a MMC increased by 12, 40 and 93 % under 200Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz operating frequency. The article concludes that in a device with isolated inner AC system, MMC operating at higher frequency will be more competitive than typical 50Hz/60Hz MMC with moderate increase of operating power loss and significant reduction of the size of the AC components.

Design and Implementation of a Web-Based Prisons Management and Police Investigation System

Information Technology (IT) has cut across all the areas of our society. In the light of this, I studied the Management Information System for Nigerian Prisons Service, Afara, Umuahia, Abia State with the aim of developing a software that can maintain an up-to-date record ofinmates as well as rendering quick and efficient services to the prisoners and also aid the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) with a database of records for their investigations as concerns ex-convicts. Bearing in mind that the management of most prisons in Nigeria is currently done manually.

This manual process of managing the prison's records and procedures makes every available document prone to damage or theft. This project took time to go into relevant details within the scope and time frame to try and proffer quick and very affordable solution to this issue. Thisproject was done using basic Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) for visible web contents, javascript, Asp.Net for server scripting and MySQL database was used tostore and manage the prisoner's records.

The project was implemented successfullyand the result obtained provides a single management systemwhich integrates all the relevant information about a prisoner, staff and other implementable modules in a singleproject. It can easily be accessed by the NPF to get relevant details in cases that concerns ex-convicts or even prison officials.

Wastewater Treatment using Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetland

Conventional wastewater treatment systems comprising of energy intensive and mechanized treatment components require heavy investment and entail high operating costs. Constructed wetlands are accepted as a reliable wastewater treatment technology and represent an appropriate solution for the treatment of many wastewater types. A constructed wetland is a shallow basin filled with some sort of substrate, usually soil or gravel, and planted with vegetation tolerant of saturated conditions

The role of constructed wetlands as environmental barrier and as a psychological separation is especially important for indirect potable reuse, when combined with other appropriate barriers. In addition to wastewater treatment, wetlands provide additional benefits, including environmental enhancement, habitat for plants and animals and passive recreational opportunities for the community. The studied constructed wetland reduced concentrations of contaminants present in the wastewater.

In this project, constructed wetland using horizontal subsurface flow is studied. Wastewater is treated in constructed wetland planted with aquatic plant Typhalatifolia. Initially wastewater is supplied to the wetland through inlet chamber. Treatment performance of a constructed wetland (CW) commissioned in a developing country was evaluated for removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD).

Significant factors for Detecting Redirection Spam

Redirection spam refers to a technique where a genuine search user is befooled and made to pass through a chain of redirections and ultimately presented with a compromised web page that may be an adware or an irrelevant content for the user. As a consequence the search engines earn a bad name in quality information retrieval and moreover the users are too dissatisfied. Also, there is sever wastage of expensive network resources like bandwidth. Detecting these malicious redirections is important for quality information retrieval from web.

But detecting such redirections is a very tedious task due to the genuine usage of redirections to provide load balancing and URL shortening features. Also, the conventional methods of spam detection such as blacklists, whitelists are not very successful as they need to be updated every time. Many factors have been discussed in previous work that facilitate redirection. To design a more robust and reliable approach, this paper presents some new factors that facilitate redirection spam detection. We also explored the operational profile of each identified factor along with the criteria for its selection.

Agent-Based Modeling: Methods and Techniques for Scheduling Industrial Machine Operation

Owing to its impact on the industrial economy, job shop scheduler and controller are vital algorithms for modern manufacturing processes. Hence a production scheduling and control that performs reactive (not deterministic) scheduling and can make decision on which job to process next based solely on its partial (not central) view of the plant becomes necessary. This requirement puts the problem in the class of agent based model (ABM). Hence this work adopts an alternative view on job-shop scheduling problem where each resource is equipped with adaptive agent that, independent of other agents makes job dispatching decision based on its local view of the plant.

A combination of Markov Chain instruments and agent oriented analysis is used in the analysis of the proposed agent based model (ABM) for the job shop scheduling problem. The Markov Chain approach allows a rigorous analysis of the ABM. It provides a general framework of aggregation in agent-based and related computational models by making use of Markov Chain aggregation and lumpability theory in order to link the micro and the macro level of observation. Simulated annealing technique is used for carrying out the optimization modeling for the ABM.

Route Optimization of Municipal Solid Waste Collection in Jabalpur City using ARC GIS

Uncontrolled growth of the urban population in developing countries in recent years has made solid waste management an important issue, so the system for collection of solid waste thus constitutes an important component of an effective solid waste management system.Waste collection become more complex in developed countries in terms of logistic, fuel , labor cost and air pollutants emission. In this study, solid waste collection routes optimization using Geographical Information System (GIS Arc View) was investigated.

The present route were optimized to reduce the length of the routes and consequently the time taken to complete the collection. The problem of waste collection in Jabalpur city has been considered where sources are dispersed by varied way. In this work, the waste transportation problem for time and cost effective waste management system design has been carried out.

The work proposed a route upgrading associated with the current routes taken by the solid waste collection trucks in the Rampur area (Jabalpur); and shows a better performance in terms of fuel consumption, emissions from the trucks and less operational costs, making it a solution to urban environmental management.

Modeling a Multivariable Process Control System using PID Optimization

Many process control model have been observed to have unsatisfactory output variables, such as pressure, composition, temperature, at specified values, giving rise to overshoot and unbounded responses. A lot of methods have been adopted to curb this undesirable effect, starting from the use of different configurations of controllers. This paper presents the model of a multivariable process control using labview proportional, integral and derivation controllers (PID).

Modeling and control of multivariable process using optimization can be effectively achieved by optimization of proportional, integral, derivative volume of liquid L coupled with using appropriate transfer functions and accurate labview controllers for the modeling to achieve the controlling of the volume of cold and hot water to be in the proportion of 3:1.

Enhancing the Channel Capacity of a Cellular Mobile System using Frequency Diversity

Communication industries have been encountering a lot of problems in their communication links some of such difficulties or problems are Interference, fading, overhanging, attenuation and congestion. Transmitted signals with different frequencies are affected in different ways in frequency domain. The fact is an advantage in frequency diversity technique. Multiple replicas of information signal are sent over several affected frequency band in this diversity.

In a sufficient wide signal bandwidth, multipath components can resolve. This paper presents the technique that can enhance the channel capacity of a cellular mobile system. Error control coding and interleaving using frequency diversity was used to combat time selective or fast fading in communication link.

In the result, it is possible to obtain different independently fading signal. The number of resolvable multipath equation is used to approximate the maximum achievable diversity order for multipath diversity.

Analyzing Titanic Disaster using Machine Learning Algorithms

Titanic disaster occurred 100 years ago on April 15, 1912, killing about 1500 passengers and crew members. The fateful incidents still compel the researchers and analysts to understand what could have led to the survival of some passengers and demise of the others. With the use of machine learning methods and a dataset consisting of 891 rows in the train set and 418 rows in the test set, we attempt to determine the correlation between factors such as age, sex, passenger class, fare etc. to the chance of survival of the passengers. These factors may or may not have impacted the survival rates of the passengers.

In this research paper, we use various machine learning algorithms namely Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest to predict the survival of passengers. In particular, we attempt to compare these algorithms.

Traffic light Controller for the Congested Urban Route using PLC & Ambulance Detection using RF Transmitter & Receiver with Lab VIEW

Traffic signals are the most convenient method of controlling traffic in a busy junction. Present traffic Signals fail to control the traffic effectively when a particular lane has got more traffic than the other lanes. In this paperan intelligent traffic control system using PLC is proposed. System measures the traffic density on each road bycounting the number of vehicles and then takes the decision. Programming is done using ladder diagram.

Seimens S7-1200 PLC is have been used for the system implementation. Traffic management on the road has become a severe problem of today's society because of growth of the urbanization. This leads to traffic jam at the traffic junctions which in turn causes delay to ambulances. In order to overcome this problem, this paper presents a simple ambulance controlled traffic system.

The main objective of this system is that to control the traffic, allowing an ambulance to arrive at a particular location without it having to stop anywhere until the destination is reached. This system includes RF Transmitter & Receiver technology and Lab VIEW software.

A Spatio-Temporal Model for Massive Analysis of Shapefiles

Over the course of time an organization working with geospatial data accumulates tons of data both in the form of vector and raster formats. This data is a result of co-ordinated processes within the organization and external sources such as other collaborative organizations, projects and agencies, crowd sourcing efforts, etc. The massive amount of data accumulated as a result and the recent developments in the distributed processing of geo-data have catalyzed the development of our spatio-temporal data processing model. Our model is loosely based upon GS-Hadoop and uses dataset consisting of more than 300,000 shapefiles (a vector data format), which was accumulated over a span of several years from various sources and creation of custom geo-portals for government departments.

The developed model provides access to visual representation, extraction of features and related attributes from over more than 800 GB of shapefile data containing ten of billions of features. In this paper, we model a spatial data infrastructure for processing such huge amount of geo-data.

Dye Removal of Adsorption Study in Thespesia Populnea Seed

The potential of Thespesia Populnea Seed (TPS) powder, for the removal of Congo red 4B (CR) dye from aqueous solution was investigated. The adsorbent was characterized by FTIR and SEM analysis. Batch adsorption studies were conducted and various parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, contact time and temperature were studied to observe their effects in the dye adsorption process. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of Congo red 4B onto the adsorbent TPS was found to be contact time 75 min-1, pH 3, temperature 303K for an initial dye concentration 22 mg/L and adsorbent dosage 0.12gm.

The experimental equilibrium adsorption data fitted to the Langmuir isotherm and Freundlich isotherm model. The kinetic data conformed to the Pseudo second order kinetic model, suggesting that the rate limiting steps may be chemisorptions. Thermodynamic quantities such as Gibbs free energy ?G0, enthalpy ?H0 and entropy ?S0 were evaluated. The negative values of ?G0 and the negative value of ?H0 obtained indicated the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption processes while the negative ?S0 value obtained decreased randomness during the adsorption process.

Impact of Positive Sequence Admittance and Negative Sequence Conductance of D-Statcom to Compensate Variations in Voltage Levels in Distributed Generation Systems

Voltage fluctuations resulting from variable output power of renewable energy sources are strictly challenging power quality in distributed-generation systems. This paper presents a control method for distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) to alleviate variation of both positive- and negative-sequence voltages. The D-STATCOM simultaneously operates as fundamental positive-sequence admittance and fundamental negative-sequence conductance to restore the positive sequence voltage to the nominal value as well as reduce the negative-sequence voltage to an allowable level.

Both admittance and conductance are dynamically tuned to improve voltage regulation performances in response to load changes and power variation of renewable sources. A proportional'“resonant current regulator with selectively harmonic compensation is realized to control the fundamental current of the D-STATCOM as well as reduce the harmonic current, which could be an advantage in practical applications due to high voltage distortion in low-voltage micro grids. Voltage-regulation performances are discussed for different D-STATCOM locations as well as different D-STATCOM currents. Computer simulations and laboratory tests validate effectiveness.

Discovering Anomalies Based on Saliency Detection and Segmentation in Surveillance System

This paper proposes extracting salient objects from motion fields. Salient object detection is an important technique for many content-based applications, but it becomes a challenging work when handling the clustered saliency maps, which cannot completely highlight salient object regions and cannot suppress background regions. We present algorithms for recognizing activity in monocular video sequences, based on discriminative gradient Random Field. Surveillance videos capture the behavioral activities of the objects accessing the surveillance system.

Some behavior is frequent sequence of events and some deviate from the known frequent sequences of events. These events are termed as anomalies and may be susceptible to criminal activities. In the past, work was based on discovering the known abnormal events. Here, the unknown abnormal activities are to be detected and alerted such that early actions are taken.

Tackling Real-Coded Genetic Algorithms

Genetic algorithms play a significant role, as search techniques for handling complex spaces, in many fields such as artificial intelligence, engineering, robotic, etc. Genetic algorithms are based on the underlying genetic process in biological organisms and on the natural evolution principles of populations. These algorithms process a population of chromosomes, which represent search space solutions, with three operations: selection, crossover and mutation.Under its initial formulation, the search space solutions are coded using the binary alphabet.

However, the good properties related with these algorithms do not stem from the use of this alphabet; other coding types have been considered for the representation issue, such as real coding, which would seem particularly natural when tackling optimization problems of parameters with variables in continuous domains. In this paper we review the features of real-coded genetic algorithms. Different models of genetic operators and some mechanisms available for studying the behavior of this type of genetic algorithms are revised and compared.

Role of Instrumentation Data Analysis in Safety Monitoring of Giant Structures

The importance of Safety monitoring of old structures e.g., Bridges, Dams etc need not be overemphasized. Monitoring of several significant parameters always essential for prediction of structural behavior of the unit. Need for proper calibration and maintenance of embedded instruments are discussed. Recording of data collected in a regular interval on site from few significant instruments embedded in the structure followed by Statistical analysis of correlated data is an important tool for health monitoring of structure.

The issue is discussed with a mention of dam instrumentation and data analysis. It helps in commenting about trend of permanent settlement component of dam deflection of a few geographically supported dam, hence justifies instrumentation in giant structures from safety point of view in turn.

Dynamical Modelling and Control in the Polymer Extrusion Process

In this paper, the results of experimental investigation are using PVC molten is used as the coating material in a extrusion unit at different extruder temperatures, extruder speeds and shear rate value. The quality of extrusion is emphasis the extruded plastics material viscosity as first indicator parameters in polymer extrusion. Also parameter which primarily determines of the viscosity is shear rate. The other parameters are extruder temperature, and single screw rotation speed. This nümerical model to evaluate the viscosities of thermoplastic polymers in the extrusion process for quality control proposed in this article.

PVC was used in this study to test the effectiveness of the model. Comparing the available results, it was found that the viscosities obtained with the nümerical model are in agreement with those obtained by using an in line rheometer. The result shows that the this method can be applied to control the polymer extrusion process. The topic of this paper is the design and experimental testing of a PID control system for the desired of the barrel temperature, extruder pressure and shear rate in a polymer single single screw extruder.

Simulations of PID Control algorithms for coating process have been made and the results of these simulations was observed. There are a comparison of PID Controller and nümerical results and there are comments about this comparison in these studies. The simulations of the algorithms are done in MATLAB 2010 a packaged program environment.

Wollastonite: An Energy Efficient Building Material

Cement production is synonymous to green house emissions and mineral resource depletion. So as to produce about 1tonne of cement, 1.5 tonne lime stone is required and nearly 1tonne green house gases are emitted out. This article present sustainable use of calcium meta silicate mineral 'œwollastonite' (CaSio3) as a partial replacement of cement. Six concrete mixes were prepared by replacing cement with wollastonite (0-25%). Test result showed that 10% wollastonite can effectively replace cement with improvement in strength and durability parameters. Incorporation of wollastonite in cement production will help in sustainable development of country.

Energy data collection by survey and its comparison with bill data

In the Implementation of any electrical powergeneration project, the basic requirement is the totalelectrical energy demand estimation. In order to estimatethe total electrical energy demand, various methods canbe used but neither of those methods can give the exactdemand. Therefore approximate analysis of energydemand is always taken in to the consideration. In thisstudy three villages are selected in Rajasthan state andelectrical energy demand of those villages is estimated. For the estimation of energy demands two sources of dataare taken in to consideration.

i.e. survey data and bill data.Survey data is collected by a quessionaire based surveyand bill data are taken from electricity DistributionCompany for the three selected village. On the basis ofthese two data, energy consumption parameters such asEnergy consumption of village in MWh/annum, Energyconsumption of family in kWh/annum, Per capita Energyconsumption in kWh/annum, Energy consumption ofvillage in MWh/month, Energy consumption of family inkWh/month, Per capita Energy consumption inkWh/month and Average Power in kW/month arecalculated for each village .these energy consumptionparameters are calculated in both the cases i.e. by usingsurvey data and by using bill data, and comparison hasmade in tabular manner as well as graphical manner inorder to observe deviation between the parametersproperly
