Development of an Equation to Estimate the Monthly Rainfall A Case Study for Catarman, Northern Samar, Philippines

This study aimed to derived an equation to estimate the monthly rainfall for Catarman, Northern Samar. The observed monthly rainfall data for Catarman N. Samar, Catbalogan Samar, Legazpi City and Masbate were obtained from the Philippine Atmospheric Geographical Astronomical Services Administration PAGASA . The monthly rainfall records of the three 3 neighboring stations Catbalogan, Legazpi, Masbate were used to identify which of the existing rainfall prediction methods, namely, Normal Ratio Method, Distance Power Method and Multi Linear Regression Method is the basis in the development of a new equation. The accuracy by which the existing methods predict the observed monthly rainfall in Catarman was evaluated using T test for correlated samples and the Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient. Since none of the methods produced estimates nearest to the observed monthly rainfall in Catarman, an equation has been derived Celeste A.

Cascaded Multiport Converter for SRM Based Hybrid Electrical Vehicle

This article about a cascaded multiport switched reluctance motor SRM drive for hybrid electric vehicle HEV , which gives two performances first thing flexible energy conversion among the generator ac grid, the battery bank, solar panel and the motor, second achieves battery management BM function for state of charge SOC balance control and bus voltage regulation. SRM accelerate the excitation and demagnetization processes during the commutation region, extend the speed range, reduce the voltage stress on the switches, and improve the torque capability and system efficiency by integrating the battery packs into the AHB converter, the cascaded BM modules are designed to configure multilevel bus voltage and current capacity for SRM drive. It includes different operation requirements like the multiple driving modes, regenerative braking modes, and charging modes. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed cascaded multiport SRM drive are verified by the simulation experiment on a three phase SRM.

Control and Monitoring of Hydro Power Plants A Review

In hydro power plants there is a main interest for the implementation of digital systems for control and monitoring replacing the conventional control systems for power, speed and voltage. As a result it is indispensable to build up mathematical models accomplished to accurately describe both dynamic and stationary behavior of the hydro plants, in order to be able to execute digital control algorithms. A significant development in stability of the system has been observed. This paper presents the comparison of simulation and modeling of the hydro power plants and performs of different control structures and algorithms.

Calculation for Design Peak Time of Commercial Building using Theoretical Analysis in Tropical Climate Country

This paper provides the calculating of peak time on various possible hours during operating time. According to the surveys and measurement, the peak time will occur at March due to the facing of glass and April due to the wall and roof . In addition, the value of solar heat gain factor SHGF in March for this building is greater than the April on the direction of East, South and West and the SHGF for April is greater than the March on North based on the latitude of Yangon 16.7875N . According to the theoretical analysis, the peak load occurs at 16hour 4PM in March with the amount of 40.459 KW for 4th floor of building envelope.

Research on Ship Detection in Visible Remote Sensing Images

With the continuous development of remote sensing technology and satellite communication technology, the higher is the resolution of remote sensing images, and the richer is information contained in the image. How to obtain information from remote sensing images quickly and accurately is the key problem in the application of remote sensing technology. This paper introduces the automatic detection of ship targets in visible light remote sensing images, analyzes the methods and problems of target detection and semantic segmentation based on deep learning, which improves the accuracy of ship detection. Finally, this paper summarizes the short comings of the existing methods and prospects of the future research trend.

Relation between Area of Opening and Range of Splash of Testing Fluid during Hydro Testing of Knife Gate Valve

Determination of relations between various variables is necessary while designing any experiment. Various methods may be employed depending on the availability of resources at the experimental setup. However, while the experiment is being designed, it is equally important that the same is backed by
theoretical formulae. If not derived or proved already, new ones can definitely be derived using first principles. In this study, a relation between the area of opening and range of splash shall be derived. The aim of this relation shall be to get a basic comprehension of the variation in parameters in relation to the range of splash of testing fluid. The concepts of range of splash and area of opening shall be reported at the initial stage. The area of opening shall then be determined using the method of integration considering variables involved in the formulation. On obtaining an expression, a relation between the area of opening and the range of splash shall be derived. Towards the end a conclusion shall be drawn reporting the proportional relations between the variables.

Design, Performance Evaluation and Synthesis of Sulfonated Carbon Based Catalyst for Hydrolysis of Microcrystalline Cellulose

Microcrystalline cellulose can be converted into valuable products such as glucose via hydrolysis reaction at mild condition using sulfonated carbon catalyst. A sulfonated carbon material was prepared by carbonization of bamboo sawdust followed by sulfonation. Prepared catalyst was studied for its ability to catalyze microcrystalline cellulose yield via hydrolysis reaction. Three carbon based catalysts at three different temperatures 400, 450 and 500 were prepared. The sulfonated catalysts were characterized using the following analyses elemental analysis, total acid density, FT IR, SEM and XRD. Based on the above characterization results, sulfonated carbon prepared at 500 and sulfonated via ultra sonication was found to have a higher acid density that is suitable to catalyze the hydrolysis reaction. The first step in the catalyst development approach was to increase the hydrolysis reaction by employing a stronger sulfonation procedure during catalyst preparation. The total acid density obtained for sulfonated carbon catalyst at 500 was 4.16 mmol g which significantly increases glucose yield. According to the FTIR analysis the sulfonated bio char contained sulfonic, carboxylic, and phenolic groups, which are responsible for the exhibited high catalytic performance during hydrolysis of cellulose. The yield of glucose obtained was 60.5 at 149.0°C in 8hour reaction time.
