Removal of Fluoride by Adsorption Using Fuller's Earth

The presents study deals with the adsorption of fluoride by Fuller' Earth. Batch adsorption studies were carried for removal of fluoride by using Fuller' earth at different time, dosage and pH. It is observed that percentage removal of fluoride is increases with the increases in contact time and dosage.

The optimum contact time is 71% and Dosage is 73%. The maximum removal of fluoride is obtained at a optimum pH of 7.0 with removal efficiency is 75.5%.Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms are followed.

Study of Polyaniline Coated Fabrics for Electromagnetic Shielding Properties

The interference of Electromagnetic among the appliances is one of the major problems to be solved at present. Electro-conductive media can generate and transport free charges, which can act as an electromagnetic shielding material. For light weight and flexible applications, here we prefer conductive polymer coating over textile instead of metals which are preferred traditionally. In this study electrically conductive cotton, polyester and polypropylene fabrics were made by coating polyaniline.

The conductive fabrics were prepared by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline using ammonium per sulphate as the oxidant by a process of diffusion polymerization in a mixed bath.. The surface resistivity study shows that the treated fabrics show better conductivity. There are no significant differences between the treated and untreated fabrics with respect to thickness, air permeability and stiffness test results. But washing and rubbing fastness results show significant degradation of coating with loss of conductive polymer.

Modeling of Queue Management System in Banking Industries

This study determined the performance measures of a queue management system in FIRST Bank Nigeria Plc; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The variables measured include: the arrival rate and the service rate from a three server system over a given period of time of the day. Quantitative research method was employed in collecting the data.

The observed data was tested using chi-square goodness of fit test to determine if the arrival rates are Poisson distributed and the service rates are exponentially distributed. Multiple channel queuing models were used in analyses. The mean arrival and service rates were 10.82 and 9.22 respectively, with a system utilization of 1.2. The probability of having zero customers in the system was used to determine the optimal number of servers needed in the system.

It was concluded that Five (5) servers is appropriate instead of three (3) servers currently used by the establishment, using the system utilization of 1.2 to trace the probability of having zero customers in the system which was found to be 0.976 at five - servers (M=5). Five (5) server model is recommended for the establishment to reduce the total expected time customers has to wait, and that operation managers should not rely on existing queuing models only, but they should apply their discretion when a queue gets out of hand.

Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) Using Power Conditioner Apply to 3 Phase 3 Wire System by Using Hysterisis and PLL

The increasing demand of electric power is giving an emphasis on the need for the maximum utilization of renewable energy sources. On the other hand maintaining power quality to satisfaction of utility is an essential requirement. In this paper the design aspects of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner integrated with photovoltaic system in a distributed generation is presented.

The proposed system consist of series inverter, shunt inverter are connected back to back on the dc side and share a common dc-link capacitor with Distributed Generation through a boost converter. The primary task of UPQC is to minimize grid voltage and load current disturbances along with reactive and harmonic power compensation.

In addition to primary tasks of UPQC, other functionalities such as compensation of voltage interruption and active power transfer to the load and grid in both islanding and interconnected mode have been addressed. The simulation model is design in MATLAB Simulation environment and the results are in good agreement with the published work.

Control of Three-Phase Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) by Instantaneous Reactive Power Theory

Use of nonlinear loads has been increased in large extent in industries now-a-days which injects harmonic currents in supply system. These harmonics creates power quality issue. Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is the popular and efficient solution to reduce these harmonics. SAPF can overcome voltage sag, eliminate harmonics and improves power factor.

SAPF reduces total harmonic distortion (THD) to acceptable level. Reference current generation is the heart of APF. Reference current generation using instantaneous reactive power (IRP) theory is presented in this paper. IRP theory is widely used to control active power filters (APFs). Modeling of this technique is implemented in MATLAB simulink.

Comparative Study of DGA Methods for the Incipient Fault Diagnosis in Power Transformer Using ANN Approach

Power transformer being a major apparatus in a power system, monitoring of its in-service behavior is necessary to avoid catastrophic failures, costly outages. Power transformers are considered capital investments in the infrastructure of every power system in the world. Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) is an effective method for the early detection of incipient fault in power transformers. But the main drawback of the DGA ratio methods is that they fail to cover all ranges of data.

The interesting results revealed by this study are serving as the underlying principle to carry out an ANN based insulation condition monitoring system. ANN approach is automatically capable of handling highly nonlinear input output relationships, acquiring experiences which are unknown to human experts from training data and also to generalize solutions for a new set of data.

Experimental Study on High Performance Concrete with Glass Fibre

In reviewing technology advances through the centuries, it is evident that material development plays a key role. Considerable efforts are still being made in every part of the world to develop new construction materials. In the construction industries, concrete technology is heading towards entirely new era by way of using glass fibre with high performance concrete. Strength and durability are the two major factors to be considered in the design of structure subjected to static and dynamic loads.

Characteristics of conventional concrete might not be entirely applicable to high strength concrete because of their difference in failure characteristics and engineering properties. HPC is multi-componential interactive construction material. High strength is not only the parameter that has to be looked in the design of structural element. There are various other parameter such as modulus of elasticity, bond strength, flexural strength, and splitting strength etc.

that tend to change the mechanical properties and failure characteristics of hardened concrete, expressive in the form of deflections, ultimate load, formation of cracks and crack pattern etc. High performance concrete (HPC) is a specialized concrete designed to provide several benefits in the construction of concrete structures. The use of fibres in concrete has gained enormous popularity in the last decade. Studies have shown increasing evidence that the brittle behavior of HPC can be overcome by the addition of short Glass fibres of small diameter in the concrete mix.

The present study aims to investigate the integration of Glass fibers with HPC of a designed mix of M60 grade of concrete. The influence of the cementations material dosage, cementultra-fine ratio, percentage of fibers, and the mixing procedures on the mechanical properties of concrete was studied by preparing several concrete mixes. Glass fibre specifically designed for use with concrete composites as admixture. Three different concentrations such as 0.75%, 1% and 1.25% of Glass Fibre by weight of cement were used.

Glass fibre first dispersed in dry mix and surfactant using an ultrasonic mixer as per state-of-the-art techniques and then combined with water and high performance concrete. The various mechanical properties like Compressive, Flexural and Split tensile strength can be improved with the addition of low concentrations of Glenium ACE 30 in high performance fiber reinforced concrete.
