Seismic Performance of Reinforced Cement Concrete Structures with and Without Viscous Dampers

structures that has occurred in the past due to catastrophic earthquakes may be avoided with the use of such devices. The study is concerned with the use of accordion metallic dampers that uses hysteretic energy to dissipate the unwanted energy due to earthquake. It consists of corrugated thin wall tubes installed as a brace connection in the frame. The axial deformation of the accordion damper enhances the lateral buckling capacity and results in maximum reduction of the damaging measures. The study emphasizes the use of such dampers and in depth analysis is performed by subjecting the building to base excitations in order to assess the nonlinear performance of the dampers installed in the building

Effect of Temperature and Humidity on Indoor Radon Concentration

Because radon gas is colorless and odorless, it is impossible for humans five senses to know whether one is exposed to it and as it is an inert gas that is nine times heavier than air it is prone to accumulation after being brought into the room through cracks in old buildings, connections and drains, thus creating indoor radon exposure problem. Although indoor radon concentration is related to indoor temperature and humidity, no research has been conducted to actually control indoor temperature and humidity, and to find out how changes in indoor temperature and relative humidity have affected indoor radon concentration. In this paper, we experimented with varying temperature and relative humidity respectively to certain conditions in the laboratory where the thermo hygrostat is installed, and using the results of the measured experiment, the relation between indoor temperature, and relative humidity and indoor radon concentration was explored.

A Deep Neural Framework for Continuous Sign Language Recognition by Iterative Training Survey

Sign Language SL is a medium of communication for physically disabled people. It is a gesture based language for communication of dumb and deaf people. These people communicate by using different actions of hands, where each different action means something. Sign language is the only way of conversation for deaf and dumb people. It is very difficult to understand this language for the common people. Hence sign language recognition has become an important task. There is a necessity for a translator to communicate with the world. Real time translator for sign language provides a medium to communicate with others. Previous methods employs sensor gloves, hat mounted cameras, armband etc. which has wearing difficulties and have noisy behaviour. To alleviate this problem, a real time gesture recognition system using Deep Learning DL is proposed. It enables to achieve improvements on the gesture recognition performance.

Recent Trends for Ash Disposal and Utilisation

In thermal power plant coal is being burnt and residue is left as ash. This ash is classified as bottom ash and fly ash. The ash generated below the furnace of thermal power plant is bottom ash which is around 20 of total ash and rest of 80 is fly ash. Bottom Ash is a coarse component of coal burnt ash and is not as useful as fly ash, because bottom ash remains toxic when recycled. But the fly ash when recycled, renders the toxic material and makes it safe for use. Fly Ash is a residue of coal combustion which is obtained from the coal based thermal power plant. It has been observed that the quality of ash produced is extremely good. They are fineness having low unburnt carbon and have high pozzolanic activity. It can be use as Pozzolana in manufacturing of building products like fly ash based bricks, cement, tiles, etc. It has advantage in agricultural industry as well as in the roads and embankment construction. The ash is a commodity that could help the company for producing wealth in long run if utilized in right direction. Fly ash is also considered as resource materials and the considerable amount of minerals can be extracted from it. This paper presents review on utilization of fly ash, that how it can be utilized in different applications, their properties and if proper utilization and disposal is not done, how it can affect our environment and life.

Satellite Image Classification with Deep Learning Survey

Satellite imagery is important for many applications including disaster response, law enforcement and environmental monitoring etc. These applications require the manual identification of objects in the imagery. Because the geographic area to be covered is very large and the analysts available to conduct the searches are few, thus an automation is required. Yet traditional object detection and classification algorithms are too inaccurate and unreliable to solve the problem. Deep learning is a part of broader family of machine learning methods that have shown promise for the automation of such tasks. It has achieved success in image understandi

ng by means that of convolutional neural networks. The problem of object and facility recognition in satellite imagery is considered. The system consists of an ensemble of convolutional neural networks and additional neural networks that integrate satellite metadata with image features.

Implementation of Low Cost Radon Measuring System for Air Quality Monitoring

Because inhaling radon and its radioactive decay products causes irradiation of lung tissue, the radon data obtained from houses and workplaces need to be transferred using Wi Fi and the Internet to a database on a radon monitoring server system. To do this, a PIN photodiode radon measuring system was implemented and the ESP8266 Wi Fi module was used for wireless communication. Through some experimental studies, we showed that the data transmission using these Wi Fi modules was very successful.

Structure, Biomass Carbon Stock and Sequestration Rate of Mangroves in the Bakassi Peninsula, S W Cameroon

The forest plays a major role in stabilizing increasing temperatures due to its climate mitigation capacity. This is not unconnected to the carbon storing and sequestration potentials of forests. The mangrove as one of the global forest types is said to be a major carbon store. This conclusion is characterized by some knowledge gaps on the actual carbon stock and sequestration potentials of some mangroves forest on the Central African Sub regional landscape. Some of these areas are the Bakassi mangroves in the South West Cameroon. Cross border conflicts, piracy and over exploitation have rendered the sourcing of appropriate data on its carbon stock and sequestration potentials difficult. In strive to bridge this knowledge gap, this work carried out a baseline assessment of the carbon stock and sequestration rate of the area. To achieve the study objectives, stratified random opportunistic sampling inventory design based on five forest canopy height classes, tree Diameter at Breast Height DBH and canopy nature using digital elevation model DEM of the shuttle Radar Topographic Mission SRTM . This combination evaluated the species type and forest structure around the areas. Carbon stocks were estimated with the use of allometric equations using biomass data collected within main plots, sub plots, micro plots and transects. Results showed that mean biomass carbon stock density for the height classes for Bakassi ranged from 33.5 Mg ha to 598.9Mg ha. Thus on average, for a hectare in Bakassi, the carbon stock is 880.437 Mg ha and a sequestration rate of 3231.204 tCO2e ha .

Bubble Wrap The Key to a New Floating Solar Thermal System

Solar Thermal Energy STE is a form of energy and a technology for harnessing solar energy to generate thermal energy or electrical energy for industries and to desalinate water and to treat waste water, among other things. Here we demonstrate a floating solar receiver which is capable of generating 1000C steam under ambient air conditions without optical concentration. Here the high temperatures are achieved by using thermal concentration and heat localization. This reduces the convective, conductive and radiative heat losses. This demonstration of a low cost and scalable solar vapour generator holds the promise of significantly for expanding the application domain and reducing the cost of solar thermal systems.

Simulation Analysis in Lateral Torsional Buckling of Channel Section by Using Ansys Software

Design rules for eccentrically loaded beams with open channel cross sections are not available in Indian code IS 800 2000 general construction in steel code of practice third revision . In this study Indian standard medium weight parallel flange ISMCP 175, ISMCP 200, ISMCP 3000 channel beams are used different span length to section height ratio of the beams is taken. The type of loading and the uniformly distributed load application are limited through the web of the channels. General solutions like Elastic critical moment, Slenderness, Reduction factors and the Ultimate loads are determined by using formula given in ANNEX E CL.8.2.2.1,IS 800 2007 for mono symmetric beams and compared with NEW DESIGN RULE snijder and with Finite Element FE simulations on the basis of a parameteric study using ANSYS software 14.0. It is was noticed that mono symmetric formula in code is giving elastic critical moment results upto 0.3 difference with ANSYS result for slender beams but showing larger difference for stocky beams. As the size of beam is increasing with constant cross section it is resulting in reduction in design capacity. The design curve for channel beam proposed by snijder seems to be a good choice , taking torsional effect into account, but it dosent claim to be correct for beams with a ratio L h 15. The results obtained from the IS code formula is matching with ANSYS results for beams having length to depth ratio between range 20 to 40.

Obtaining Modal Parameters in Steel Model Bridge by System Identification using Artificial Neural Networks

Artificial Neural Networks are easy to build and take good care of large amounts of noisy data. They are especially suitable for the solution of nonlinear problems. They work well for problems where domain experts arent available or there are no known rules. Artificial Neural Networks can also be adapted to civil engineering structures and suffer from dynamic effects. Structures around the world were badly damaged by the earthquake. Thus, loss of life and property was experienced. This particularly affected countries on active fault lines. Pre and post earthquake precautions have been developed in the world. For these reasons, it is ne
cessary to determine the dynamic performance of structures in the world. There are several methods to determine dynamic performance. System identification is one of these methods. The mathematical model of the structural system is obtained by system identification method. Artificial Neural Networks ANN is a system identification method. ANN can adapt to their environment, work with incomplete information, make decisions under uncertainties and tolerate errors. Steel Model Bridge was used in this study. The system identification of the steel model bridge with the ANN method of 0.90 was made successfully. As a result of this study, ANN approach can provide a very useful and accurate tool to solve the problem in modal identification studies.

The ongoing demands for the extra high voltage boost the need for looking for improving the conventional insulating materials by various modification techniques. Transformer insulating oil based nanofluids NFs is one of these techniques. The present work aims to investigate the dielectric performance of transformer oil based nanofluids and their dependence on the type of nanoparticles. To achieve this, three types of nanoparticles namely Zinc Ox ide ZnO as conductive nanoparticle, Titanium Oxide TiO2 as semi conductive nanoparticle and Silicon Dioxide SiO2 as dielectric nanoparticles have been suspended in mineral oil MO at various concentration levels and the dielectric performance was tested by performing experiments such as AC breakdown voltage test, relative permittivity and DC conductivity. Experimental findings reveal that the use of nanofluids technique could improve the efficiency of the dielectric performance of mineral oil. The nanoparticle type and concentration have critical effect on the dielectric performance of prepared samples. For breakdown voltage, it is manifested that, samples prepared with ZnO nanoparticles exhibited the highest percentage of improvement. While for relative permittivity, samples prepared with TiO2 nanoparticles at higher concentrations, showed the highest percentage of improvement. On the other hand, all samples showed higher values in conductivity comparing with bare mineral oil sample.

Study of Bricks Made Up of Different Materials in Building Construction by eTabs Software

No construction work is possible without bricks because of bricks are used in buildings as well as in pavement. Since many centuries brick making has been practiced by human beings, presently bricks are easily made by the use of the machine but in old day's bricks are manufactured by own hand using wooden or steel moulds. For any types of buildings, amajor part of the construction cost is just belongs to bricks work. Bricks walls are not a load bearing elements but they column. Due to high dead weight, the size of the load bearing element needs to be increased which increase the cost of project disasterly that's why in modern engineeringlightweight and low cost building material is needed. In this research work, hypo sludge waste of paper industry and rice husk ash waste from agriculture industry were use. Both the materials are waste product one from paper industries and other from agriculture industry and both cause environmental pollution and disposal problem. Use of such product help to reduce the environmental pollution and they are low cost materials which also helps to keep project cost low. In this research work, hypo sludge is used as cementing material and rice husk ash is used as fine aggregate. In this research work, different variations of hypo sludge and rice husk ash RHA is used for manufacturing bricks sample after that bricks physical properties is compare by ordinary clay bricks, fly ash bricks, and with their different composition. For this research work Dimension Analysis, Initial Rate of Absorption, Compressive Strength Test, Water Absorption Test, Soundness Test, and Efflorescence Test is conducted for the analysis of the physical properties of the bricks. from the analysis by etabs conclusion can be made that bending moments and shear forces are less in structure made up of hypo sludge bricks as compare to conventional structures structure those are made up of either clay bricks or fly ash bricks on every storey of building structure. The weight of a RHA HS Brick is approximately 2.5 to 2.7 kg while clay brick weights approximately 3.0 kg, it causes approximately 13.33 reduction in dead load of structure due to partition walls which on the other hand causes reduction in percentage of steel used in all related load carrying structure section like Beams, Columns, and Footing.

Magnetic Levitating Hover Board to Work as a Forklift

Nowadays storing or retrieving goods from warehouses etc. there is use forklifts extensively. They play a vital role in reducing manual labor to a great extent. It has one shortcoming in the fact that it cannot access small spaces. There is also need skilled personal to operate the vehicle. Apart from these things forklifts also get damaged due to lack of maintenance. The main objective of this magnetic levitating hover board is to access all k inds of spaces inside the workshops and further reduce human effort by using magnetic levitation principle to create a lift to assist in hovering of goods over a copper surface. Hover board is built, which makes it easy to move around heavy objects inside the workshop with minimal effort and more efficiently decreasing the time consumed in the whole process. Electronic speed controller is used to control the rpm of motor which is used to rotate the discs that contain the N52 magnets.

CFD Analysis for Heat Transfer Enhancement Using Nano Fluids in Double Pipe Heat Exchanger

This work includes the effect of different working fluid on the performance of heat exchanger. For analysing the effect of different working fluid, it considered air, water and different nanofluids and measure the Nusselt number and friction factor for each case. It also analysed the effect of change in Reynolds number on the performance of heat exchanger for different working fluids. For analysing the effect of change in Reynolds number, it considered four different Reynolds numbers that is 10000, 12000, 14000 and 16000. For performing the numerical analysis ANSYS fluent was used. Through numerical analysis it is found that for air as a working fluid heat transfer is less, whereas in case of water it is marginally higher than the air. But for all nano fluids, heat transfer is much higher than the air and water. For analysing the effect of different nano fluid, this work includes three nano fluids that are Al2O3, TiO2and ZrO2. Through analysis it is concluded that heat transfer is more in case of TiO2 as compared to other nanofluids, air and water. With increase in Re number heat transfer gets increase whereas as friction factor get decrease.

Fabrication of Electric Folding Triscooter Tricycle

The basic aim behind our project was to make an environmental friendly portable automobile that would be easy to handle by both the sexes and would emit 0 emission. We have used D.C motor as our main electric source due to which there is no emission at all and also the problem of fuel consumption is solved. Also keeping in mind the parking problems now days, we decided to make a triscooter which can be folded easily, so after the use one can fold the triscooter and can carry it along with him her. Our design allows users to easily transport the triscooter using less space when it is ""folded"" into a compact size. We have made this design with our own innovative ideas and by referring some books and websites. Our project is unique and no foldable triscooter is available in Indian market till now.

Modelling and Control of Wind PV Based Hybrid Power System Considering Hybrid Energy Storage System Incorporating Battery and Supercapacitor

in this paper a control strategy is proposed for the control of battery supercapacitor based hybrid energy storage system applied to wind PV based hybrid renewable energy system. The hybrid combination of battery supercapacitor provide complement solution for high power and higher energy storage system and thereby covering wide range of applications. The controller is designed based on the variations in the DC link voltage and these variations are suppressed using controller. The proposed controller is tested under two modes of operations surplus power mode and deficit power mode. The power imbalance between supply and demand is minimized using hybrid energy storage system where low frequency components are absorbed by battery and high frequency components are tackeld by supercapacitor. The results show that the proposed control strategy worked satisfactorily for both the case. The results are verified in MATLB Simulink environment.

Study of Automated and Controlled Aquaponics System An Innovative and Integrated Way of Farming

At the moment, an attempt has been made to adapt, adapt and automate the Aquaponics System technology for the benefit of farmers and to tackle key issues such as food safety and water scarcity. Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture, which is growing fish and other aquatic animals, and hydroponics which is growing plants without soil. Aquaponics uses these two in a symbiotic combination in which plants are fed the aquatic animal's discharge or waste. In return, the vegetables clean the water that goes back to the fish. Along with the fish and their waste, microbes play an important role to the nutrition of the plants. These beneficial bacteria gather in the spaces between the roots of the plant and converts the fish waste and the solids into substances the plants can use to grow. Aquaponics considered a sustainable production system. It presents a series of beneficial features for the environment such as land conservation, efficient use of water and nutrients, organic fertilization, produce the highest yield on a field, no floor is required, environmental benefits etc. This study describes the overall design and working, list of the component required, cost involved in the setup, maintenance, and operation, advantages and disadvantages of the system. A automatic prototype has also proposed to created a to test the system sustainability.

An Impact on Content Based Image Retrival A Perspective View

The explosive increase and ubiquitous accessibility of visual data on the Web have led to the prosperity of research activity in image search or retrieval. With the ignorance of visual content as a ranking clue, methods with text search techniques for visual retrieval may suffer inconsistency between the text words and visual content. Content based image retrieval CBIR , which makes use of the representation of visual content to identify relevant images, has attracted sustained attention in recent two decades. Such a problem is challenging due to the intention gap and the semantic gap problems. Numerous techniques have been developed for content based image retrieval in the last decade. We conclude with several promising directions for future research.

Analysis of Reconfigurable Solar Converter using MPPT Techniques

In this paper a converter called reconfigurable sunlight based converter RSC for photovoltaic PV battery applications is presented, particularl utility scale PV battery application. The fundamental idea of the RSC is to utilize a solitary force transformation framework to perform diverse activity modes, for example, PV to lattice dc to air conditioning , PV to battery dc to dc , battery to matrix dc to air conditioning , and battery PV to network dc to air conditioning for sun powered PV frameworks with vitality stockpiling. This converter arrangement is engaging for PV battery application, since it limits the quantity of change stages, along these lines improving productivity and lessening cost, weight, and volume. The examination of the converter is finished by PI controller and fluffy controller to decide yield voltage, PV current and voltage, battery current and voltages. Improvement of the model and Simulation is finished utilizing MATLAB SIMULINK software.
