Analysis of Characteristics Behaviour use of Locally Materials in Highway Subgrade

Concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension and brittle also. Cracks also start forming as soon as the concrete is placed. These above said drawbacks don't permit the use of normal concrete in pavements as they lead to a lack of ductility along with fracture and failure. These weaknesses in concrete can be mitigated by using fibers as reinforcement in the concrete mix. Waste materials in the form of polyethylene and tires cause environmental pollution which leads to various health problems. Polyethylene and waste tires can be reused and used efficiently in the concrete as reinforcement in the fiber form. Polyethylene is a synthetic hydrocarbon polymer which can improve the ductility, strength, shrinkage characteristics. This study deals with the effects of addition of polyethylene fiber on the properties of concrete. In this study, Polyethylene and

tire fibers were cut into the size of 25mm x 8mm and they were used 1.5 each by volume. Grades of concrete used were M 30, M 35 and M 40. IRC 44 2008 was followed for the design of concrete mix. In this study, the results of the strength properties of Polyethylene fiber reinforced concrete have been presented. Four point bending and double shear test were performed in the laboratory for flexure and shear strength determinations. There was seen an increase of 18 in the 28 day compressive strength along with an increase of 39 in flexure Strenght and 32 in shear strength. It is also found that 22 reduction in the four point bending test and 36 reduction in deflection by double shear tests were initiated out from the experiments. Theoretical analysis of deflection was carried out with the help of energy methods. Practical values were verified with the theoretical values within the allowable limits. Finally, it is concluded that polyethylene and tire used efficiently in reinforced cement concrete.

Water Pollution Status of Mula-Mutha Rivers in Pune City: Review

Mula Mutha rivers in Pune Maharashtra, India are in highly insanitary and unhealthy conditions. It flows along a 22 km stretch through Pune city and is Maharashtra's second most polluted river of 2018, containing human and animal excreta three times more than the safe limit, according to Maharashtra Pollution Control Board MPCB . Despite riverfront development for Mula Mutha rivers by Pune Municipal Corporation PMC , domestic waste, untreated sewage and industrial effluents is dumped into the river. Waste is the potentially dangerous byproduct of a wide range of activities, including manufacturing, farming, water treatment systems, construction, automotive garages, laboratories, hospitals, and other industries. The waste may be liquid, solid, or sludge and contain chemicals, heavy metals, radiation, pathogens, or other materials source website 1 . The objective of this review work is to analyze the degree of pollution in a decade or more. This review study gives information of five parameters namely pH, DO, BOD, C
OD, hardness at three study locations for the years 2006, 2008, and 2017 respectively. The trend of water pollution is also depicted from tabular data and graphs, where the status of contaminated river water is discussed. Remedial measures are suggested to mitigate high pollution levels in river.

To Study the Properties of Concrete with Partial Replacement of Aggregates with Industrial and Construction Waste

Natural resources are depleting worldwide while at the same time the generated wastes from the industry are increasing substantially. The sustainable development for construction involves the use of nonconventional and innovative materials, and recycling of waste materials in order to compensate the lack of natural resources and to find alternative ways conserving the environment. So, this paper presents the results of an experimental investigation carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of concrete mixtures in which fine aggregate sand was replaced with Copper Slag CS while coarse aggregates was replaced by recycled concrete aggregate RCA from demolished structure. Both the fine and coarse aggregate were replaced with percentages 0 for the control mixture , 10 , 20 , 30 , of Copper Slag by weight. Tests were performed for properties of fresh concrete and hardened Concrete. Slump test was conducted to determine the workability of the various design concrete mix. Compressive strength and split tensile strength were determined at 7, 28 days of curing. The results indicate that workability decreases slightly with increase in Copper Slag percentage, though workability for the sample were within the prescribed limit for M25 concrete. Test results indicate significant improvement in the strength properties of plain concrete by the inclusion of CS alone while a reverse trend in observed for increasing percentage of RCA in the sample. The synergistic effect of CS and RCA on the designed sample concrete revealed that the percentage of CS is the more decisive factors than the percentage of RCA in deciding the performance of the concrete in terms of compressive and tensile strength. The outcomes of this research work showed that Copper slag and recycled concrete aggregate can be effectively used in structural concrete as a replacement of fine aggregate sand and coarse aggregate respectively. Futher, it substantiate towards sustainable construction approach because of its dual advantage of controlling menace of solid waste disposal along with its subsequent environmental pollution and increasing the cost efficiency and carbon efficiency of the product.

Investigation on the Effect of Intake Manifold Water Injection on the Performance of Single Cylinder Spark Ignition Engine

The emission from combustion of fuels of internal combustion engine have been major part of the air pollutant sources. Emission regulations in developed countries are becoming very strict and trade off strategies in order to reduce pollutants and it is need to reduce to reduce the fuel consumption. Lean combustion is one of the best ways to reduce the fuel consumption. However, it produces higher NOx emission. The reasons are high combustion temperature and excess of oxygen in cylinder. In order to reduce these conditions, water injection would be used. A decrease in temperature of the combustion process leads to a drop in NOx formation in engines. The use of water injection in the combustion process can be a part of solution to the problem of pollution control and fossil fuel depletion. Water is sprayed into the cylinder or incoming fuel air mixture, this may lead to effectively reduce the intake temperature. The reduction of intake temperature allows for more aggressive ignition timing to be employed, lead to the increase of power output and improve the fuel efficiency. In this paper, it is presented about the investigated finding results of water injection in the suction stroke of single cylinder four stroke cycle S.I engine. The effects of variable water injected amount on the engine performance under variable load conditions are presented in this paper. The study involved the injection of water into the intake manifold in the suction stroke at the angle from 26° ATDC to 78° ATDC with specified injection durations with various water injected amounts with one injector type and the another injector type with the variable water injection duration 78° ATDC to 130° ATDC . According to the tested performance finding results, the injected amount of water 0.065ml inject is the most suitable water injection amount with the analysis of constant speed with variable load based on better performance.

Artificial Intelligence in Power Station

With increased competitiveness in power generation industries, more resources are directed in optimizing plant operation, including fault detection and diagnosis. One of the most powerful tools in faults detection and diagnosis is artificial intelligence AI . Faults should be detected early so correct mitigation measures can be taken, whilst false alarms should be eschewed to avoid unnecessary interruption and downtime. For the last few decades there has been major interest towards intelligent condition monitoring system ICMS application in power plant especially with AI development particularly in artificial neural network ANN . ANN is based on quite simple principles, but takes advantage of their mathematical nature, non linear iteration to demonstrate powerful problem solving ability. With massive possibility and room for improvement in AI, the inspiration for researching them are apparent, and literally, hundreds of papers have been published, discussing the findings of hybrid AI for condition monitoring purposes. In this paper, the studies of
ANN and fuzzy logic application will be presented.

Study on Shallow and Deep Bin for a Constant Volume at Same Loading Condition a Review

The bunkers and silos made of reinforced concrete have almost replaced the steel storage structures. Concrete bins possess less maintenance and other architectural qualities greater than steel storage tanks. They are used to store materials like grain, cereals, coal cement etc. They both serve the purpose of bins.
