Study on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Dispersive Soil

This paper deals with determination of physical and mechanical properties of dispersive soil. Soil is the foundation material which supports loads from the overlaying structure. Soil dispersivity is mainly due to the presence of exchangeable sodium present in the structure. Dispersive soils are identified by an unstable structure, easily flocculated in water, and very erodible. Using dispersive clay soils in hydraulic structures, embankment dams, or other structures such as roadway embankments can cause serious engineering problems if these soils are not identified and used appropriately. Some important parameters of dispersive soil obtained from laboratory testing are investigated in this paper. Soil sample is taken from Mandalay at about 3ft depth. To determine physical properties of soil, water content determination, specific gravity test, grain size analysis, Atterberg limits test, crumb test. Standard Proctor compaction test, Unconfined Compression Strength UCS test are carried out to determine mechanical properties of soil. According to Unified Soil Classification System, the studied soil is in CH group and group name is lean clay with sand. From crumb test, sample has grade 4. Therefore, the studied soil is highly dispersive.

Dynamic Analysis of Fourteen Storeyed Y Shaped High Rise Reinforced Concrete Building with Shear Walls

The performance of the fourteen storeyed Y shaped high rise reinforced concrete building in seismic zone 4 has been investigated using dynamic analysis with response spectrum. The building is designed with dual system containing special moment resisting frame SMRF and shear walls. Structural Engineering Software ETABS is used for analysis and design of building. The design of superstructure is checked for sliding resistance, overturning effect, P effect, storey drift and irregularity. Stability check for the structure without shear wall is satisfactory. But, building taller than 10 stories is not adequate to give the lateral stiffness from frame action. Building with core shear wall structure and planar shear walls are proposed. After analyzing and checking for the stability, the results of the three structures with and without shear walls are presented.

Design and Simulation of VoIP System for Campus usage A Case Study at PTU

Voice communication is one of the most important parts of human development. People need to communicate at great distances have influenced their development to all levels and at all times. Voice over Internet Protocol VoIP is one of the most widespread used and common technologies that are related to voice communications. VoIP uses internet protocol data packets to transfer voice, fax, and other data over the shared network. Several tools have emerged around this protocol. Systems and software those are capable of managing communications with telephone calls or faxes and other advanced functionalities. In this paper, VoIP network architecture design is simulated using Cisco Packet Tracer. RIP routing protocol, VoIP technology, Network Topology design and Wireless technology play important roles to achieve the main goal.

Implementation of Effective Switching System for Controlling Home and Office Appliances

This paper focuses on the effective switching system that allows user control of electrical appliances using smart phone. This system will be able to ease the effort of physically challenged individuals in controlling home and office appliances. To operate the effective switching system, the user should send DTMF Dual Tone Multi Frequency to system phone via Global System for Mobile Communication GSM . In the system unit, DTMF decoder decodes the signals from the system phone. These decoded signals are fed to the PIC16F677 microcontroller to perform the required function.

Comparative Study on Mobile Switching Center of Mobile Generations

The world of mobile wireless communication is rapidly developing. The last few years have experience a remarkable growth in wireless industry. Just within a decade, an evolution of wireless service people used every day can be completely dumbfounded from the roots of analog based first generation service 1G to today's truly broadband ready fourth generation networks. The ever growing demands for higher data rates, greater capacity and better quality of services triggered operations to come up with new network technologies. There are many improvements of mobile generations in the world of telecommunication. Mobile Switching Center can perform various types of function in mobile communication. It also connects VLR Visitor Location Register, HLR Home Location Register, AuC Authentication Center and EIR Equipment Identity Register and they are essential needing for mobile communication. This paper represents the introduction about evolution from 1G to 4G system and discusses about the main elements in Mobile Switching Center eventually it includes comparison of Mobile Switching Center in every mobile generations.

Risk Assessment for Building Construction Sites in Myanmar

In Myanmar, construction industries carry on to become safety first. There are many hazards and risks in construction that can cause employee injuries and illnesses. In order to be safe, risk assessment technique is widely used in international but less in Myanmar. So this paper aims to help what kind of risks can occur and to know how to reduce these risks by using additional controls. Firstly, it is required to collect data. Therefore, three construction companies in Mandalay Myanmar are chosen. Hazards are obtained from the observed data. Questionnaires concerned with likelihood and severity are collected from the project engineers in these sites. The results from questionnaires are used to evaluate the risks. The evaluated risks are reviewed whether these are acceptable or additional controls are required to reduce risks. On the basis of outcome results, risk prioritization number charts can be obtained. Thus, this study can provide for developing necessary controls to reduce risks and to be safe for construction industries.

Study on Solid Waste Management System and Design of Sanitary Landfill for Monywa Township

The description of this paper is "Study on Solid Waste Management System and Design of Sanitary Landfill for Monywa Township". It has mainly contained two portions. First, analysis of solid waste composition and disposal system for seven quarters for downtown area of Monywa city performed. In the analysis of solid waste composition, demographic study and haul route study are carrying out for the collection of sample from each quarter. Household refuse is considered only in this paper. Second, the sanitary landfill for downtown areas of Monywa city is designed. For disposal of municipal solid waste from Monywa, area method is used for land filling of MSW. And then, the required landfill area and useful life of disposal site are estimated.
