Analysis of Wind Diesel Hybrid System by Homer Software

A hybrid power system is to avoid the use of depleting fossil fuels, improve the technical performance and reduce the greenhouse gases emission. Depending on the renewable energy sources, it is connected in the main grid or operates separately. Because of these reasons, operation, control and grid integration of renewable sources is a task of fundamental importance in modern power system. Hybrid power system modes must be studied. The simulation was carried out using various combinations of optimization and sensitivity variables developed in HOMER. The economic parameters play central role of deciding the dimension, feasibility and optimization of a proposed system. In order to achieve lowest Net Present Cost NPC, comparison of diesel generating system and wind diesel systems were compares for i economic ii technical and iii environmental parameters.

Production and Utilization of Retarder from Hardwood Sawdust

In this study, production of retarding admixture ASTM C494 Type B from hardwood sawdust and utilization on concrete by using various dosage of admixture was studied. In production of retarder as a local product lignosulphonates based retarding admixture was produced to investigate differences of test results by using admixtures. In this project, selected raw material was Pyin Ka do sawdust and sodium sulphite Na2SO3 was used as a cooking aid chemical liquor by heating at 110°C based on pulp and paper sulphite process. The mechanisms of action of lignosulphonate admixture in cement water systems are prescribed by five different types interaction between retarder and cement grains i Reduction in surface tension of water ii Adsorption iii Electrical repulsion iv Dispersion and v Deflocculation. These reactions cause delaying in setting time.In utilization of retarder on concrete, setting time of hydraulic cement paste, compressive strength of mortar and concrete were considered by using produced admixture dosage of 0.5, 1, 1.5 by weight of cement. The setting time testing of cement paste was made by using vicat needle penetration test, and compressive strength was tested with standard cubes. The test results of produced admixture were compared with ASTM C494 1993. Compressive strength of mortar was tested with 3 inches cube and that of concrete was tested by 6 inches standard cube. For comparison of cost and results of produced admixture, commercial admixture 0.5 by weight of cement was tested.

Viterbi Decoder Plain Sailing Design for TCM Decoders

Convolutional codes are error correction technique used in noisy channels. Viterbi Algorithm is the most widely used decoding Algorithm, which decodes the sequence in a maximum likelihood sense. But the complexity of the Viterbi decoder increases with the coding rate of the system. Viterbi decoder is the most power hungry module in the Trellis coded modulation system. Viterbi decoding is the best technique for decoding the convolutional codes but it is limited to smaller constraint lengths. The basic building blocks of Viterbi decoder are branch metric unit, add compare and select unit and survivor memory management unit. From the simulation results it is observed that the proposed Viterbi decoder architecture with modified Branch metric calculation can reduce significant amount of computations in order to decrease the hardware usage and to simplify the proceedings.

Arduino Based Scientific Calculator

This paper describes the implementation of electronic scientific calculator using Arduino. The mathematical process for scientific calculation processes are based on the digital electronic technology. The calculator takes input from a user in real time via a keypad and displays output on a LCD display module. The control, arithmetic algorithm and calculation functions are performed using a Arduino Mega 2560. The prototype of the system is configured and the simulation results for basic mathematical functions and some scientific functions of calculator are expressed with the help of Proteus simulation software. And then the experimental results are tested with the constructed calculator circuit.

Experimental Study of Bituminous Mix by Adding Waste Polythene

Bituminous mixes are most commonly used all over the world in flexible pavement construction. It consists of asphalt or bitumen used as a binder and mineral aggregate which are mixed together, laid down in layers and then compacted. Under normal circumstances, conventional bituminous pavements if designed and executed properly perform quite satisfactorily but the performance of bituminous mixes is very poor under various situations. Today's asphaltic concrete pavements are expected to perform better as they are experiencing increased volume of traffic, increased loads and increased variations in daily or seasonal temperature over what has been experienced in the past. In addition, the performance of bituminous pavements is found to be very poor in moisture induced situations. In the present study waste polyethylene which has been easily obtained are used, in dry form with the aggregates like a fiber in a bituminous mix. A comparative study is carried out between standard bitumen concrete and polyethylene modified bitumen concrete with varying polyethylene contents 0 , 2 , 4 , 6 , and 8 with bitumen binder 80 100 grade bitumen. Fly ash is used as mineral filler material. Waste polyethylene used as a modifier for the bituminous mixes for sustainable management of plastic waste as well as for improvement of bituminous mix. Using Marshall Method of mix design the optimum polyethylene content have been determine of the different type of the mix.

A Unique Technique for Solid Waste Segregation

The rising population of India poses serious threats with regard to the availability of living space, utilization of natural resources and raw materials, education and employment, another serious peril that follows is the escalating amount of waste generated each minute by an individual. One such problem is solid waste management which in addition to disturbing the balance of environment also has adverse effect on health of the society. Effective waste management is one of the major problems of the present era. The segregation, handling, transportation and disposal of waste are to be properly managed so as to minimize the risk to the environment. Waste segregator comprises of IR sensor to detect the waste or objects that are present on the conveyor belt. The IR sensor conveys the data to the micro controller, and then the microcontroller initiates the driver circuit. The function of the driver circuit is to convert the low current signal to high current signal. This high current signal is then given to the motor which makes the motor to rotate in clockwise and anticlockwise direction, resulting in the movement of conveyor belt. Conveyor belt start moving, when the waste on the conveyor belt reaches the blower section, the conveyor belt stop to a particular duration of time, during that time blower is turned on, which makes the dry waste to blow off and fall into the bin. Once the dry waste is removed, again when it reaches the metallic section, again conveyor belt is stops. Once the conveyor belt stops, the microcontroller initiates the motor to rotate in a particular angle and provides power supply to the electro magnet. The electro magnet attracts the metal particles objects that are present in the mixed waste.

Study of Concrete Properties under Acid Attacks

Acidic attack on concrete imparts a unique set of damage mechanisms and manifestations compared to other durability issues of concrete. Sulfuric acid attack limits the service life of concrete elements and, thus, results in increased expenditures for the repair or in some cases replacement of the whole structure. To date, there is lack of standardized tests for specifically evaluating the resistance of concrete to sulfuric acid attack, which has caused great variability, for example in terms of solution concentration, pH level control, etc., among previous studies in this area. Accordingly, there are conflicting data about the role of key constituents of concrete e.g. supplementary cementitious materials SCMs , and uncertainty about building codes' stipulations for concrete exposed to sulfuric acid. Hence, the first objective of this thesis was to assess the behaviour of the same concretes, prepared with single and blended binders, to incremental levels mild, severe and very severe of sulfuric acid solutions over 36 weeks. The test variables included the type of cement general use GU or portland limestone cement PLC and SCMs fly ash, silica fume and nano silica. The severe 1, pH of 1 and very severe aggression 2.5, pH of 0.5 phases caused mass loss of all specimens, with the latter phase providing clear distinction among the performance of concrete mixtures. The results showed that the penetrability of concrete was not a controlling factor, under severe and very severe damage by sulfuric acid attack, whereas the chemical vulnerability of the binder was the dominant factor. Mixtures prepared from PLC performed better than that of counterparts made from GU. While the quaternary mixtures comprising GU or PLC, fly ash, silica fume and nano silica showed the highest mass losses after 36 weeks, binary mixtures incorporating GU or PLC with fly ash had the lowest mass losses.
