Frequency Regulation and Active Power Control in Wind-Diesel Based Hybrid Power System Using BESS

Hybrid power systems must be self-sufficient in terms of frequency and voltage control due to their islanded operation. A control strategy to combine the operation of a wind generator, a diesel generator, a battery energy storage system and a dump load for frequency regulation is proposed in this thesis. The proposed strategy partitions the control task into two subtasks a choosing the element to be operated on, b providing frequency regulation. A global controller, based on an IF-THEN inference engine, chooses the element to operate. The frequency regulation is provided by separate individual controllers.

In this thesis, a hybrid power system has been modelled and the proposed control strategy has been tested. By monitoring the systems power management and frequency, it is shown that the proposed control strategy operates efficiently. The proposed strategy also reduces the number of measurements required and facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources.

Design of a Controller for Systems with Simultaneously Variable Parameters

The contribution of this paper is in suggesting an analysis and design of a control system with variable parameters. By applying the recommended by the author method of the Advanced D-partitioning the system's stability can be analyzed in details. The method defines regions of stability in the space of the system's parameters. The designed controller is enforcing desired system performance. The suggested technique for analysis and design is essential and beneficial for the further development of control theory in this area.

A Compression Based Methodology to Mine All Frequent Items

Data mining is not new. People who first discovered how to start fire and that the earth is round also discovered knowledge which is the main idea of Data mining. Data Mining, also called knowledge Discovery in Database, is one of the latest research area, which has emerged in response to the Tsunami data or the flood of data, world is facing nowadays. It has taken up the challenge to develop techniques that can help humans to discover useful patterns in assive data. One such important technique is frequent pattern mining. This paper will present an compression based technique for mining frequent items from a transaction data set.

Wireless Linked Navel Substation for International Boundary Scanning and Surveillance System Using GPS

The boaters may sometimes cross their area limit without their knowledge. This causes a lot of problems. They may be caught by the other peoples. This project is developed for the boat users to find out their border in the sea area. The main modules in this project are RF transducer, microcontroller unit and LCD display. The Zigbee transmitter is connected at the border area. It transmits RF signals within the particular limit. The Zigbee receiver with the micro controller unit is connected at the boat. When the boat reaches the particular area, the RF signals are received by the receiver and given to the micro controller unit.

The micro controller analyses the signal and calculates the distance and sends corresponding message to the LCD display. If it crosses the limit, the micro controller operates the warning buzzer and it switches off the running motor of the boat. Thus the boat may be automatically off and the boater may easily understand the situation. The micro controller program is written in embedded c language and the microcontroller used is ARDUINO.

Use of Industrial Waste in Road Embankment

The scarcity of soil which suits for construction activities by fulfilling geotechnical characteristics is forcing the pavement engineers to look for alternative materials for construction activity. On the other hand due to the rapid industrialization there is sharp increase in the number of crushing units, steel producing factories in so many states and the country as well. The crusher dust and Blast furnace slag obtained from these industries are collected and tested for various geotechnical characterizations.

The suitability of partial or full replacement is checked by conducting CBR tests on various mix portions. In the present investigation, crushed stone as coarse aggregate mixed with Crusher Dust, Blast Furnace Slag and Sand as fine aggregate and tested for compaction OMC and MDD and strength CBR characteristics to suit as base course material along with their relative performance.

It is also studied partial replacement of Crusher Dust, Sand by Slag particles 50 with respect to their gradation mixes. From all the studies it is identified that average gradation obtained higher VBR values than lower and upper gradation for all types of fine aggregates due to their dense or compactness by possessing effective well graded conditions.

Lower gradations obtained CBR values nearing to their average gradation which are higher than upper gradation mixes. The same trends are also observed in case of 50 replacement. Hence replacement of natural soil like gravel, sand by crusher dust and slag particles with their maximum utilization such as partial or full replacement with crushed stone particles attaining CBR values greater than 80 can be used in road construction as base-course material.

Single Image Super Resolution using Interpolation and Discrete Wavelet Transform

An interpolation-based method, such as bilinear, bicubic, or nearest neighbor interpolation, is regarded as a simple way to increase the spatial resolution for the LR image. It uses the interpolation kernel to predict the missing pixel values, which fails to approximate the underlying image structure and leads to some blurred edges. In this work a super resolution technique based on Sparse characteristics of wavelet transform. Hence, we proposed a wavelet based super-resolution technique, which will be of the category of interpolative methods, using sparse property of wavelets.

It is based on sparse representation property of the wavelets. Simulation results prove that the proposed wavelet based interpolation method outperforms all other existing methods for single image super resolution. The proposed method has 7.7 dB improvement in PSNR compared with Adaptive sparse representation and self-learning ASR-SL 1 for test image Leaves, 12.92 dB improvement for test image Mountain Lion and 7.15 dB improvement for test image Hat compared with ASR-SL 1 . Similarly, 12 improvement in SSIM for test image Leaves compared with 1 , 29 improvement in SSIM for test image Mountain Lion compared with 1 and 17 improvement in SSIM for test image Hat compared with1.

Analysis of Dual-axis Solar Tracking System by using Lock Anti-Phase Drive Method

Solar energy is rapidly advancing as an important means of renewable energy resource. Many of the solar panels throughout the world are positioned with the fixed angles. Solar tracking enables more solar energy to be generated because the solar panel is able to maintain a perpendicular profile to the sun's rays. Solar trackers move the solar panel to follow the sun trajectories and keep the orientation of the solar collector at an optimal tilt angle. The main objective of this research is to develop an dual-axis solar tracking system azimuth angle as well as altitude angle in which solar panel will keep aligned with sunlight in order to maximize in harvesting solar power generation from the solar panel and to show for the output power with dual-axis solar tracking system is higher than without tracking system in the sunny day condition.

This research focus on the development of new approach to control the dual-axis solar tracking system by using DC motor and controller design is simple structure and saving cost by using LM 324 op-amp IC. Design and construction of a prototype for solar tracking system which detects the sunlight using Light Dependent Resistors LDR and DC motor is used to control the appropriate position of the panel where it can receive maximum sunlight. In this dual-axis control system, lock anti-phase drive method is used for H-bridge. From the hardware testing, the solar tracker is proven more effective for capturing the maximum sunlight source for solar harvesting applications.
