To Determine the Mechanical Properties of Concrete by Using Glass Fibre and Polypropylene Fibre

Concrete is the most widely used construction material has several desirable properties like high compressive strength, stiffness and durability under usual environmental factors. At the same time concrete is brittle and weak in tension. Plain concrete has two deficiencies, low tensile strength and a low strain at fracture. These shortcomings are generally overcome by reinforcing concrete. Normally reinforcement consists of continuous deformed steel bars or pre-stressing tendons.

The advantage of reinforcing and pre-stressing technology utilizing steel reinforcement as high tensile steel wires have helped in overcoming the incapacity of concrete in tension but the ductility magnitude of compressive strength. Fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) is a concrete made primarily of hydraulic cements, aggregates and discrete reinforcing fibres. FRC is a relatively new material. This is a composite material consisting of a matrix containing a random distribution or dispersion of small fibres, either natural or artificial, having a high tensile strength.

Due to the presence of these uniformly dispersed fibres, the cracking strength of concrete is increased and the fibres acting as crack arresters. Plain concrete possess very low tensile strength, limited ductility and little resistance to cracking .Internal micro cracks are inherently present in concrete and its poor tensile strength is due to propagation of such micro cracks.

Fibres when added in certain percentage in the concrete improve the strain properties well as crack resistance, ductility, as flexure strength and toughness. Mainly the studies and research in fibre reinforced concrete has been devoted to steel fibres. In recent times, glass fibres have also become available, which are free from corrosion problem associated with steel fibres.

The present paper outlines the experimental investigation conducts on the use of glass fibres with structural concrete. CEM-FILL anti crack, high dispersion, alkali resistance glass fibre of diameter 14 micron, having an aspect ratio 857 was employed in percentages , varying from 0.33 to1 percentage by weight in concrete and the properties of this FRC (fibre reinforced concrete) like compressive strength, flexure strength, toughness, modulus of elasticity were studied.

Quality Management of NH 31 from Etah to Kasganj in U.P.

Quality systems entail having the organizational structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes and resources for implementing quality management such that there is a guiding framework to ensure that every time a process is performed the same information, method, skills and controls are used and practiced in a consistent manner. Construction firms have been continually struggling with its implementation.

Historically construction has been an industry reluctant to implement change. Consequently, it has remained behind where it should be on the implementation of TQM. When a state highway physical works contract is issued for tender, it will be assessed to determine the quality assurance level. Transit will select the level for the contract using a formula designed to determine the relative complexity of the contract. NH-31 Extension is the newly declared National Highway of this region which starts form Etah to Kasganj. Its length is 97.48 Km.

It is an important link road between Mainpuri and Bareilly. International tourist forms different countries commute through this road. It is very important road form cultural, commercial and strategic point of view; so, it has to be kept in good motor able condition. This report is based on a study conducted on NH-31 to identify those factors that hinder the implementation of TQM principles in the actual field operations of a construction jobsite. These inhibitive factors were identified through a literature review and a survey ofNH-31 road.

Hand Rehabilitation Glove

In this paper, we present the mechanism which will be helpful for an individual to cope up with the Rehabilitation exercises. Mechanism proposed here will be useful for assisting human being in case of the Hand Rehabilitation. We propose to design a pair of soft wearable hand glove which comfortably fits on the human hand. One hand will be the Motion detection Glove which includes the Flex Sensors and the other is the assistive hand used for performing the Rehabilitation exercises. Basically our designed glove could be used for robotic orthosis.

Experimental Study on Properties of Some Lesser Used Seasoned Timber Species in Myanmar

This study investigates the properties of four lesser used seasoned timber species in Myanmar: Inn (Dipterocarpus tuberculatus Roxb.), Kanyin (Dipterocarpus turbinatus), Thit-Sein (Terminalia bellirica Roxb.) and Yamane (Gmelina arborea Roxb.). The experiments are tested according to American Standard Methods of Testing Small Clear Specimens of Timber (ASTM D 143-09). The moisture content is examined in the kiln dried condition.

The mechanical properties are done to measure the bending strength, compressive strength parallel to grain, compressive strength perpendicular to grain, and tensile strength perpendicular to grain and shear strength of each species of timber. In addition, the density and moisture content of timber are also measured for physical properties. Total 600 specimens (30 specimens for each test and species) are measured in this study. The results from experiments are also adjusted to 12% moisture content.

Removal of Fluoride by Adsorption Using Fuller's Earth

The presents study deals with the adsorption of fluoride by Fuller' Earth. Batch adsorption studies were carried for removal of fluoride by using Fuller' earth at different time, dosage and pH. It is observed that percentage removal of fluoride is increases with the increases in contact time and dosage.

The optimum contact time is 71% and Dosage is 73%. The maximum removal of fluoride is obtained at a optimum pH of 7.0 with removal efficiency is 75.5%.Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms are followed.

Study of Polyaniline Coated Fabrics for Electromagnetic Shielding Properties

The interference of Electromagnetic among the appliances is one of the major problems to be solved at present. Electro-conductive media can generate and transport free charges, which can act as an electromagnetic shielding material. For light weight and flexible applications, here we prefer conductive polymer coating over textile instead of metals which are preferred traditionally. In this study electrically conductive cotton, polyester and polypropylene fabrics were made by coating polyaniline.

The conductive fabrics were prepared by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline using ammonium per sulphate as the oxidant by a process of diffusion polymerization in a mixed bath.. The surface resistivity study shows that the treated fabrics show better conductivity. There are no significant differences between the treated and untreated fabrics with respect to thickness, air permeability and stiffness test results. But washing and rubbing fastness results show significant degradation of coating with loss of conductive polymer.

Modeling of Queue Management System in Banking Industries

This study determined the performance measures of a queue management system in FIRST Bank Nigeria Plc; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The variables measured include: the arrival rate and the service rate from a three server system over a given period of time of the day. Quantitative research method was employed in collecting the data.

The observed data was tested using chi-square goodness of fit test to determine if the arrival rates are Poisson distributed and the service rates are exponentially distributed. Multiple channel queuing models were used in analyses. The mean arrival and service rates were 10.82 and 9.22 respectively, with a system utilization of 1.2. The probability of having zero customers in the system was used to determine the optimal number of servers needed in the system.

It was concluded that Five (5) servers is appropriate instead of three (3) servers currently used by the establishment, using the system utilization of 1.2 to trace the probability of having zero customers in the system which was found to be 0.976 at five - servers (M=5). Five (5) server model is recommended for the establishment to reduce the total expected time customers has to wait, and that operation managers should not rely on existing queuing models only, but they should apply their discretion when a queue gets out of hand.
