Design of High Strength Concrete Using Superplastisizer and Stone Dust

Concrete is the most widely used construction material today. Increase in construction activities have led to an increase in demand for the various raw materials in concrete, especially river sand which is the conventionally used fine aggregate. Due to increase in mining process, the availability of this river sand is becoming scarce. This led to researches on alternate materials as ingredients of concrete that are in no way inferior to the conventional materials. Manufactured sand was one of the alternate materials proposed.

Though manufactured sand has many advantages, one of the major areas of concern is the fine material of size 150 micron and down removed during the manufacturing process and accumulated as a waste material. The paper presents the laboratory investigations and a comparative study on the mechanical properties and behaviour of high strength concrete an mortar using fine stone dust, the residue produced during the production of manufactured sand.

Different Module Integrated Converters for PV Systems A Review

In this paper literature review of PV module integrated converters has been conducted. Many times it is necessary to boost the PV voltage, further the size of power processing circuitry should be as small as possible. Considering this many researchers have worked on development of module integrated converters, in which converters are fitted in PV module. The PV output is boosted to desire level by using suitable MPPT techniques. Converters with high efficiency, higher voltage gain, and cascaded topologies can be designed for this purpose.

Study on Natural Pozzolan as a Partial Replacement for Cement in Pervious Concrete

A study on pervious concrete is the balance of permeability and mechanical properties as well as durability. Pervious concrete is important in concrete industry due to the increased awareness of environmental protection. Natural pozzolan is used as a supplementary cementitious material to partially replace of Portland cement in concrete.

In this paper mainly focuses on experimental study of different replacement of cement with Popa volcanic natural pozzolan in pervious concrete. This research work is made previous concrete on 10%, 20% by weight replacement of cement with and without pozzolan. 19mm maximum size of crushed gravel was used. Type I Portland cement and water- reducing and retarding concrete admixture were used.

Mix design is based on the no slump method from the American Concrete Institute' Committee 211.3R-02. This concrete is tested for its properties, such as density, void content, water permeability and the compressive strength with various ages. According to the results, pozzolan replacement of cement increased as the compressive strength and permeability and durability of pervious concrete decreased.

Quality Assessment of Water in Municipal Solid Waste Dumpsite Area

The focus of this study is to assess the contribution of waste dumping in water pollution. Water samples were collected from the nearby Htein Pin open dumping site in Yangon, lake, tube wells, river and leachate were analyzed and observed contamination. It has been found that most of the parameters of water are not in the acceptable limit in accordance with the WHO drinking guide lines. It is concluded that the contamination is due to the solid waste that are dumped in the area.

Converting Plastic to Useful Energy Resources

In India the grown of population and industries are very rapid in urban area and therefore plastic waste problem is generated. The characteristics of plastic waste depend on factors such as lifestyle, climate, tradition, food, habits etc. The problem of plastic is that it cannot be disposed which is harmful for environment .

The other problem of plastic is that when it is being manufactured toxic gases are released which then create problem such as global warming &pollution. Present study aims at some sort of new technology which can control toxic gases and convert plastic waste into useful energy resource. This technology will bring employment opportunities and it may generate big amount of income.

Power Management in PV/Wind/Battery Based Hybrid Power System

The battery energy storage system (BESS) is one of the main means of smoothing wind- or solar-power generation fluctuations. Such BESS-based hybrid power systems require a suitable control strategy that can effectively regulate power output levels and battery state of charge (SOC). This paper presents the results of a wind photovoltaic (PV)BESS hybrid power system simulation analysis undertaken to improve the smoothing performance of wind PVBESS hybrid power generation and the effectiveness of battery SOC control.

A smoothing control method for reducing wind PV hybrid output power fluctuations and regulating battery SOC under the typical conditions is proposed. A power management method is proposed for balancing the power between different components of hybrid power system. The effectiveness of these methods was verified using MATLABSIMULINK software.

A Review on Unit Sizing, Optimization and Energy Management of HRES

It has become imperative for the power and energy engineers to look out for the renewable energy sources such as sun, wind, geothermal, ocean and biomass as sustainable, cost-effective and environment friendly alternatives for conventional energy sources. However, the non-availability of these renewable energy resources all the time throughout the year has led to research in the area of hybrid renewable energy systems.

In the past few years, a lot of research has taken place in the design, optimization, operation and control of the renewable hybrid energy systems. It is indeed evident that this area is still emerging and vast in scope. The main aim of this paper is to review the research on the unit sizing, optimization, energy management and modeling of the hybrid renewable energy system components.

Developments in research on modeling of hybrid energy resources (PV systems), backup energy systems (Fuel Cell, Battery, Ultra-capacitor, Diesel Generator), power conditioning units (MPPT converters, BuckBoost converters, Battery chargers) and techniques for energy flow management have been discussed in detail. In this paper, an attempt has been made to present a comprehensive review of the research in this area in the past one decade.
