A Reconfigurable High Speed Dedicated BISR Scheme for Repair Intra Cell Faults in Memories.

Shrinking process technology has the advantage of lower area of Integrated Circuits (I.C s). This has allowed adding more hardware (features) to existing circuits and enhancing the existing features, Example: - adding more cores to a micro-processor or increasing the resolution of the Video processing hardware of a mobile phone, etc. Execution of complex algorithms need more local memories (SRAMs) embedded in the hardware.

As memories are densely packed structures compared to logic (gates and flip flops) the probability of fault occurrence in memories is higher. Thus, adding more complex logic has increased the probability of fault occurrence in ICs and thus decreasing the yield. In this paper we present a Reconfigurable Built in Self Repair (Re-BISR) technique to repair the faults in embedded memories. We also employ Error Correction Codes (ECC) to repair single bit faults in memories. Both the above techniques combined allow us to repair the faults and thereby increasing the yield and reliability of an IC.

Re-BISR can repair the faults of several memories in an IC and thus has lesser hardware overhead compared to a dedicated BISR scheme where each RAM has a dedicated BISR module. However, Re-BISR is considerably slower compared to dedicate BISR as RE-BISR operates serially on each memory. Future version of Re-BISR contains a programmable MBIST scheme to accommodate several March algorithms and also include virtual blocks for redundant memories to increase the repair rate. We implement the project using Xilinx ISE tool for simulation and synthesis and the code is written in Verilog HDL.

Power Quality Improvement in Power System using UPFC

Occurrence of a fault in a power system causes transients. To stabilize the system, Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) are used. Load flow analysis is done to analyze the transients introduced in the system due to the occurrence of faults. The Flexible Alternating Current Transmission (FACTS) devices such as UPFC are becoming important in suppressing power system oscillations and improving system damping. The UPFC is a solid-state device, which can be used to control the active and reactive power.

This paper considers a power system as a case study for investigating the performance of UPFC is achieving stability. By using a UPFC the oscillation introduced by the faults, the voltage deviations and speed deviations can be damped out quickly than a system without a UPFC. The effectiveness of UPFC in suppressing power system oscillation is investigated by analyzing their voltage deviations and reactive power support in this paper. A proportional integral (PI) controller has been employed for the UPFC. It is also shown that a UPFC can control independently the real and reactive power flow in a transmission line.

Real Time Health Monitoring System: A Review

Generally in critical case patients are supposed to be monitored continuously for their heart rate, oxygen saturation level, blood pressure, body temperature, pulse-oximetry (SPO2) and ECG etc. In the previous methods, the doctors need to be present physically on sight, so that the real time health monitoring system is used every field such as hospital, home care unit, sports using wireless sensor network. This health monitoring system use for chronicle diseases patients who have daily check-up. So, researchers design a system as portable device.

Researcher designed different health monitoring system based on requirement. Different platform like Microcontroller, ASIC, PIC microcontroller and embedded systems are used to design the system based on this performance and in the recent years cloud based e-healthcare systems have emerged. In future FPGA based or using IoT we can develop a system which will help to monitor different health parameters.

Experimental Analysis of Pyramidal Solar Still with Sponge as Absorber

The availability of drinking water is one of the most important requirements of the world. Desalination process through solar energy is a very useful process for converting impure water into drinking water. In the present article a pyramidal solar still (PSS) has been designed and fabricated and its performance has been compared with a fabricated conventional solar still (CSS). Sponge as absorber is being used for enhancing the quantity of distillate. The absorber increases the surface area for evaporation and this, in turn, increases the distillate obtained.

A comparison of performance was done. The results show that the maximum temperature of water in the basin of PSS was 47-ºC at 2:30 P.M. and the maximum temperature of basin water of CSS was 43-ºC at 2:30 P.M. Maximum temperature of PSS upper glass was 46-°C, PSS inner glass temperature was 54-°C and CSS glass temperature was 42-°C. The maximum hourly productivity of PSS is 314.47% higher than CSS basin.

Accumulated productivity of Pyramidal solar still (PSS) is 419.42% higher than the conventional solar still (CSS). Maximum accumulated distillate of PSS and CSS are 1480 ml and 278 ml, respectively, at 4:30 P.M. The optimum water input flow was 250 ml/hr.

Experimental Study on Partial Replacement of Cement with Nano Silica in the Concrete

The main objective of this work is to study the mechanical strength and durability of the concrete when the particular cement dosage in concrete in replaced with Nano silica powder. However it is expected that the use of Nano-silica in concrete improve the strength properties of concrete. Also it is an attempt made to develop the concrete using Nano sized particles as a partial replacement of cement, which satisfies the various structural properties of concrete like compressive strength and tensile strength.

It is expected that the final outcome of the project will have an overall beneficial effect on the utility of Nano-silica concrete in the field of civil engineering construction work.

Power Quality Standards, Problems and their Solutions

Recently, power quality has become an important subject and area of research because of its increasing awareness and impacts on the consumers, manufacturers, and utilities. There are a number of economic and reliability issues for satisfactory operation of electrical equipment. As power quality problems are increasing manifold due to the use of solid-state controllers, which cannot be dispensed due to many financial benefits, energy conservation, and other production benefits, the research and development in mitigation techniques for power quality problems is also becoming relevant and important to limit the pollution of the supply system.

In such a situation, it is quite important to study the causes, effects, and mitigation techniques for power quality problems. In this paper different power quality standards like standards such as IEEE 519-1992, IEC 61000, and many others in different countries have been developed on the permissible limits in the levels of deviations and distortions in various electrical quantities such as voltage, current, and power factor are being discussed. Further power quality problems and their possible solutions are also discussed.

Bio-fortification of underutilized Himalayan pear and plum- A next hotspot for nutritional strategies of the 'œneglected' micronutrients

Functional foods/nutraceuticals have received considerable interest in recent times, because of their presumed safety and potential nutritional and pharmaceutical value. Nutraceuticals are the substances which are not traditionally recognized nutrients, but which have positive physiological effects on the human health and claimed to possess multiple therapeutic benefits. The medicinal plants represent one of the important fields of traditional medicine all over the world and hence established constituents of nutraceuticals.

The use of food for promoting health is as old as the practice of phyto-medicine for treating or preventing various types of illness. Presently, health awareness around the globe is increasing, leading to the demand for functional food products with special characteristics and health benefits. These functional foods can play an important role in preventing the occurrence of certain chronic diseases besides providing a means to reduce increasing burden on the health care system with a continuous preventive mechanism.

Further, fruits and herbs are considered as protective foods, as they contain numerous phytochemicals and natural bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and carotenoids, which provide protection against many diseases. Therefore, the fruits and herbs rich in different bioactive compounds can be investigated for the development of functional food products and the present review could eventually be helpful in drawing the attention of researchers and scientists to work on it.
