Studies on Effect of Structural Irregularities on Seismic Performance of Reinforced Concrete Building

An earthquake is a shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy inthe Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are so far unpreventable and unpredictable, theonly option with us is to design and build the structures, which are earthquake resistant. The amount of damagecaused by earthquakes could increase in future.

This will not be due to a rise in the number and severity ofquakes but rather to the increase in world population, linked to the growing number of crowed metropolitanareas and the increase in value of property and material in these areas. In spite of all the weakness in thestructure, either code imperfections or error in analysis and design, the structural configuration system hasplayed a vital role in catastrophe.

The building configuration has been described as regular and irregular interms of size and shape of the building, arrangement of structural elements and mass. The study summarizes thedifferent types of structural irregularities i.e. Plan and vertical irregularities in RC building along with theirperformance during earthquake.

A Review on Detection of Cracks Present in Composite Cantilever Beam by using Vibration Analysis Technique

The aim of this paper is to discuss various techniques used by various researchers for vibration based crack detection in cracked composite structures. In aeronautical, mechanical and civil engineering fields various structural systems are likely to damage and deterioration during their working period. So it is very important to find damage and deterioration in structural member by an effective and reliable methodology. Interest in various damage detection methods has considerably increased in last few decades. A local flexibility is introduced in structural member due to the presence of crack that would affect the vibration response of structure.

Due to the presence of crack there is reduction in stiffness of structure and increase in damping of the structure. Since there are changes in physical properties there are reductions in natural frequencies and deviation in mode shapes. Therefore by measuring the vibration parameters it is possible to predict crack depth and crack location in structural member. In this paper effect of various parameters like crack depth, crack location on natural frequency of beam is studied.Presence of crack in a beam decreases the natural frequency which is more pronounced when the crack is near the fixed support and the crack depth is more.

Effect of Normalization Techniques on Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network Classification Performance for Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease Diagnosis

In this study, Doppler signals were recorded from 40 healthy volunteers and the right and left hand ulnar and radial arteries of 40 rheumatoid arthritis patients. Multiple Signal Classification method, one of the subspace signal processing methods is applied to the obtained Doppler signals and the feature of signs has been reached. Diseased and healthy people have been distinguished by using three different normalization techniques, including (z-score, minimum-maximum and decimal scaling) and artificial neural networks classification.

K-fold cross-validation, classification accuracy, sensitivity and specificity are used to interpret and described the results of medical diagnostic test.

A Technological Survey on Privacy Preserving Data Publishing

There is an enormous collection of records of a particular individual in a system. These data needs to be highly secured. Due to easily availability of these records, the records or information is on high risk. These records are being used for the business purpose and as well as for the decision-making in the respective domain. However, any data that is in the raw form comes in the category of sensitive record as it contains the complete information of each particular individual.

In the present scenario while publishing, the data mainly depend on the rules, policies and guidelines so that only the required information are published based on the agreements. Hence, privacy preserving and data publishing can be defined as tool and methods for publishing information while preserving privacy of the records. In this paper, there is a survey of various techniques and algorithm designed so far in order to preserve privacy of the data.

A Review on Anaerobic Treatment in Decentralized and Source-Separation-Based Sanitation Concepts: Applicability in Developing Countries

Providing reliable and cheap effluent treatment in rural areas may be a challenge in several components of the globe, significantly in developing countries. The issues and limitations of the centralized approaches for effluent treatment square measure increasingly egress. Anaerobic digestion of effluent ought to be a core technology utilized in localized sanitation systems particularly once their objective is additionally resource conservation and recycling.

The foremost economical system involves separate assortment and anaerobic digestion of the foremost focused domestic effluent streams: black or brown water and solid fraction of room waste. Separate assortment victimization negligible quantity of transport water beside saving this resource permits applying a targeted treatment. A comparatively tiny volume of digestible effluent is directly reused for fertilization or processed once a top quality product is needed.

Clean nutrient production needs advanced multi-step treatment, however, the standard of product is unhazardous. The difficulty of organic micro-pollutants and their accumulation within the surroundings is recently usually self-addressed. Anaerobic treatment of total domestic effluent stream is applied further. Treated during this means effluent is discharged or used for irrigation or fertilization.

The post-treatment is sometimes needed and its rate of quality depends on the anaerobic effluent quality and native necessities for final effluent quality. Understanding the receiving surroundings is crucial for technology choice and will be accomplished by conducting a comprehensive website analysis method. A spread of technological solutions for the treatment of domestic effluent streams and recycle of resources is mentioned during this paper.

Remedial Measures to Improve the Living Conditions of Slump Dwellers as a Step in the Journey towards a Smart City : An Overview

Cities are the response to social, political or technological transformations. They reflect our aspirations and respond to the challenges of the era. We are becoming a nation of '˜cities and towns'. In India the population ratio between the rural and urban is changing fast. Today 17% of our population is of slum dwellers. Agriculture has become more efficient as also its machinery, and needs far fewer people.

Unemployment and even underemployment have become a worrisome phenomenon in Indian villages The attraction of cities with its thousand lights has become irresistible. Can our cities absorb this exodus? In India the whole exodus has been accommodated in the existing structures. This has led to the creation of slums in India. Even basic needs such as accommodation, energy, water, and sanitation are in short supply.

Are these remediable?? Can we clean up our cities or build new ones? If we go in for building new cities, can we integrate such initiatives with the answers that new technologies provide??. Slums are an unhappy reality for our country and many others across the world. In India the total number of slum dwellers is about 65 million! Slums are a major urban drawback and a huge hurdle in the country's development at the same time people living there are a part of our working system!!

We need to think whether the broad term SMART CITIES is good enough for India or we could have smart cities, smart slums and smart rural sector because the financial hurdles will always keep them on different racks of the ladder. We believe that Smart cities should focus on developing smart techniques of social awareness for the slum dwellers so that they can consciously work for a better living rather than be happy in the dump.

Passive Damping Filter Design and Application for Three-Phase PV Grid-Connected Inverter

Second and third-order passive filters (LC and LCL) are interesting filters to use for grid-connected PWM inverters. Because of the stability problems of this filter around resonance frequency, series and damping resistor can be add to an LCL filter. However, the resistor value has impact on the filter respond, voltage and current harmonic distortion and system power loss. In this paper, the mathematic characteristics of LC, LCL filter, series and parallel damping LCL filters will be described with their design to apply in 3-phase PV grid-connected inverter.

And, simulations are used to validate the theoretical analysis of the filters on filter performance and power quality of the grid in 3-phase grid-connected inverter.
