Air Cushion Mobility System

In any industry we use various material handling system. Most of them required high power and energy but in Air Cushion Mobility System requires less power and effort to move considerable heavy load. An air cushion mobility system is any system that employs a cushion of air the load from the ground. Air casters are systems which use air pressure to facilitate the movement materials in the industry. It uses continuous air pressure to create a cushion of air upon which the load platform floats.

An air caster is a pneumatic lifting device used to move heavy loads on flat, nonporous surfaces. Its operation is similar to a hovercraft, as it uses a thin layer of air as a way to float a very small distance off the ground. Compressed air enters an airbag shaped like a torus, and when the bag is filled it creates an airtight seal with the ground, and forces more air into the centre of torus, eventually causing the air to flow over the bag and to raise the load above the ground.

Simulation and Modelling of Pipeline Corrosion and Integrity Management in Oil and Gas Industry

In this research work, Monte Carlo Simulation and degradation models were used to predict the corrosion rate and reliability of crude oil pipelines. Discrete random numbers simulated from Inline Inspection Data were used to predict the corrosion rate using Linear and Power Law Model. The mean time for failure MTFF was estimated with the degradation models. The result of the study shows that the degradation models and Monte Carlo simulation can predict the corrosion rate of the pipelines to an accuracy of between 83.05-98.33 and 84.24- 97.94 respectively. From the plot the lowest degradation recorded was 1.67 Power law and highest 16.95 Power Law , for Linear Model Law, the lowest value recorded was 2.11 while the highest is 15.23 . In comparison to the value obtained from Monte Carlo Simulation 2.01 lowest and 15.76 highest , all the values fall between 1.67 to16.95 . Thus, RMSE of between 1.67 and 16.95 was recorded for the degradation models. Therefore, the statistical models give the expected number of failures. The results of the statistical models can be used in reliability analysis, risk analysis, and optimum maintenance decisions.

Seismic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction under a Bridge Pier Due to Chauk Earthquake Excitation of 0.12g to 0.5g

In this study, seismic analysis of soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier are studied with different earthquake excitations. In 2016, August 25, a magnitude of 6.8 happened near Bagan region. Pakokku Bridge, the longest of the bridges over the Irrawaddy, is situated on 37.8 miles from the epicentre of 2016 Chauk earthquake. That is why the safety performance of long-span Bridge Pakokku Bridge especially for the safety of the foundation system subjected to soil-foundation interaction is necessary to investigate for unexpected future seismic excitation. Firstly super structural loadings on the pile cap are estimated by using STAAD PRO V8i.

And then, p-y curves are determined by Reese 1974 method for the static and National Cooperative Highway Research Program NCHRP for dynamic conditions. Based on the development of p-y curves, theoretical ultimate soil resistance pcr and pcd due to wedge and flow failure are determined to produce critical depth xcr. After that, finite element software ABAQUS is used for the analysis of soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier in static condition.

And then, the behaviour of soil foundation interaction under a bridge pier is carried out due to Chauk earthquake. In this study, the behaviour of soil-foundation interaction such as deflections and settlements are produced. According to the analysis results in static condition, it is found that the vertical and horizontal displacements at the pile tip are 2.28mm and 0.14mm respectively. In dynamic condition, the vertical and horizontal displacements at the pile tip are 3mm and 2.94mm are found at 0.12g.

After that, maximum ground acceleration of 0.5g is 14.5mm and 2.94mm in horizontal and vertical displacement of pile tip. Maximum shear stress and strain are found out the base of the pile cap. Finally it is found that the soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier during earthquake motions presented in this study is reliable and reasonable with the limitation of AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges.

Application of Geographic Information System GIS For Urban Renewal A Case Study of Yelwan Tudu of Bauchi State, Nigeria

Urban renewal has been regarded as a sound approach to promoting land values and improving environmental quality. An urban renewal programs is supposed to address undesirable urban conditions. However, the real problem in this regard is that the determination of the level of substandard situations that can be considered undesirable is usually based on planning standards and varies from place to place and time to time. This study attempts to review the general concept of urban renewal and various approaches. It highlights the existing physical and socio-economic characteristics of the study area.

To establish how urban renewal programs can be achieved simultaneously using GIS .The methodology included digital mapping techniques, ground survey to establish the factors responsible for deterioration in the study area, conversion of surveyed data into digital form as attribute of the spatial data variables considered and query of each variables to show individual conditions in the study area. The results obtained showed that GIS easily allowed the linking of spatial data with attribute data based on which queries and spatial analysis carried out. The level of deterioration is determined using weighted index analysis method of identifying a slum, thus major rehabilitation is suggested as the best approach for the study area. Finally, a renewal plan is proposed as way of solving the identified problems in the study area.

An Internet of Things Approach for RFID Smart Tollgate Automation

With the significant development in Roadways, there is an increase in the number of toll plazas. These toll plazas have long queues and the time consumed in paying cash and returning change causes all the more delay. In this project, an IOT based Toll booth Manager System is designed in which a person can use an RFID to pay the Toll charge.

The system would check if it has sufficient balance and then deduct the toll charge and update the balance through IOT. Internet of Things IoT is basically the network of ‘things' by which physical things can exchange data with the help of sensors, electronics, software and connectivity. These systems do not require any human interaction. IoT Technology is found in many industries like healthcare, Energy, Transportation etc. In this project, the data of the RFID card is sent to the website, through IOT.

Finite Element Analysis of Micro End Mill and Simulation of Burr Formation in Machining a Review

The recent technological progressions in industries have offered ascent to the continually growing requests for microstructures, sensors, and parts. Micro-milling is a promising method to create these scaled down structures, sensors, and parts. Yet, micro-milling still confronts some significant difficulties, tormenting further provision of this innovation. The most noticeable around them is micro burr formation. Burrs created along the completed edges and surfaces in micro-milling operation have huge effect on the surface quality and performance of the completed parts and microstructures. In any case, deburring of micro-parts is not conceivable because of bad accessibility and tight tolerances in micro segments.

One of the methods to minimize micro burr formation in micro milling is by enhancing the geometry of the device. As minimization of micro burrs still remains a key test in micro machining, not many researchers have worked in this field. The main aim of the research work is to present finite element analysis of flat end mill micro cutters used in micro milling by varying geometry of the tools. Apart from this, study has been done in detail on burr formation in micro milling and what factors affect it. Burr formation simulation has been carried out while varying the tool geometry.

The performance of these materials is mostly dependent on selecting the right combination of reinforcing materials since some of the processing parameters are associated with the reinforcing particulates. This paper attempts to review the different reinforcing materials used in the processing of hybrid copper materials. The major procedures for fabricating these materials and research areas for further improvement on copper hybrid composites are suggested.

Remedial Instruction in Language Disfluencies in the Non-Psycho-Expert Lens

This qualitative case study discovered and explored the plights of languages teachers conducting remedial instruction in language disfluencies, the way teachers conduct remedial instruction in language disfluencies in the non-psycho-expert lens, and the way learners progress in the kind of remediation they receive. The informants of the study were the language teachers of Buenavista National High School. These teachers are selected purposively as those who have encounter in remedial instruction for language disfluencies in the non-psycho-expert lens. The data were gathered through interviews with the informants. The study revealed that language teachers conducting remedial instruction in language disfluencies in the non-psycho-expert lens face dire situations on insufficiency in terms of background knowledge on language disfluencies, time, and resources for remediation. Another problem that they face is the learners attitude toward remedial instruction as well as parental or stakeholder support. Weak retention of the learners, insignificant change in the learning behavior and the use of colloquial words also contribute to the unwanted scenario of students undergoing remediation. Language teachers conduct remedial instruction in language disfluencies in the non-psycho-expert lens through utilizing various teaching strategies, going back to the basics, having awareness on learner diversity, seeking parental or stakeholder support, exemplifying passion for teaching, and having an encouraging class environment. Learners progress in such kind of remediation through the use of language in praxis or utilizing the communicative language teaching by teachers where students use language practically. Learners as well show activeness in the class knowing that they both share the same learning pace among peers. Most importantly, learners progress due to the acceptance and understanding of the teachers on the type of learners they have.

CFD Analysis of a Double Pipe Heat Exchanger by using Fluid Based Nanomaterials

Double pipe heat exchanger design is a device which we using for heat transfer applications straightforward. This maintains one heat exchanger pipe inside another. After determining the required heat exchanger surface area, for either counter flow or parallel flow, the pipe sizes and number of bends for the double pipe heat exchanger can be selected. In double pipe heat exchanger design, an important factor is the type of flow pattern in the heat exchanger. A double pipe heat exchanger will typically be either counterblow or parallel flow.

Cross flow just doesnt work for a double pipe heat exchanger. The flow pattern and the required heat exchange duty allow calculation of the log mean temperature difference. That together with an estimated overall heat transfer coefficient allows calculation of the required heat transfer surface area. Then pipe sizes, pipe lengths and number of bends can be determined. The convective heat transfer, friction factor and effectiveness of different volume concentrations of Fe3O4 Nano fluid flow in an inner tube of double pipe heat exchanger with return bend has been estimated experimentally and turbulent flow conditions. The test section used in this study is of double pipe type in which the inner tube diameter is 0.019 m, the annulus tube diameter is 0.05m and the total length of inner tube is 5 m.

At a distance of 2.2mfromthe inlet of the inner tube the return bend is provided. The hot Nanofluids flows through an inner tube, whereas the cold water flows through an annulus tube. The volume concentrations of the nanoparticles used in this study are 0.03 and 8 lpm ,10 lpm mass flow rate with Reynolds number range from 9,000 to 30,000.in the process analyze the CFD analysis is performed in Ansys Fluent 15.0 workbench and its used different nanofluids used, which nanofluids better heat transfer rate find base on the results. In this process choose different nanofluids Al2o3, Cuo ,Fe3o4 this nanofluids properties taken by different base papers.

Analysis of Thermal Criteria on Cryogenic Pressure Vessel

After a cryogenic liquid has been liquefied and purified to the desired level it should then be put away and transported. Cryogenic fluid storage-vessel and transfer line design has progressed rapidly as a result of the growing use of cryogenic liquids in many areas of engineering and science. The development of the Dewar vessel represented such an improvement in cryogenic fluid storage vessels that it could be classed as "break-through" in container design. Cryogenic Pressure vessels are weight vessels are utilized for capacity cryogenic fluids with least warmth in-spill into the vessel from the outside beyond what many would consider possible.

The test of configuration is to utilize such materials that dont lose their alluring properties at such a low temperature. Here the most extreme care is taken to plan a capacity vessel fulfilling both mechanical and Thermal Properties. The outcomes will be contrasted with the current vessel of industry. Glass epoxy can be utilized which will decrease warm exchange from conduction of Surge plates which are bolster from external vessel to inward vessel. The glass epoxy significantly with stands the temperature. They appear in these sectors as industrial compressed air receivers and domestic hot water storage tanks. Other examples of pressure vessels are diving cylinders, re compression chambers, distillation towers, pressure reactors, etc.

Modelling and Operation of HVDC Based Power Transmission System

Submodule overcurrent caused by DC pole-to-pole fault in modular multilevel converter HVDC MMC-HVDC system is one of the important research objects about its electrical characteristics. In this paper, the fault mechanism before and after the converter blocked was analyzed respectively and the circuit model for the analysis of submodule overcurrent was explored. The analytic equation for overcurrent calculation was deduced and a detailed analysis was also performed. The changes of submodule overcurrent stress with different circuit parameters were obtained and the key issues were also summed up.

The results indicate that the submodule overcurrent is the AC system three-phase short-circuit current superposed the discharging current before the converter blocked, and the submodule overcurrent is the AC system three-phase short-circuit current superposed the valve reactor freewheeling current after the converter blocked. From the computation and simulation results, it is concluded that the analytical method is feasible and its calculation results are comparatively precise.

HVDC System a Need for Future Power Transmission

The continuously increasing demand for electric power and the economic access to remote renewable energy sources such as off-shore wind power or solar thermal generation in deserts have revived the interest in high-voltage direct current HVDC multiterminal systems networks . A lot of work was done in this area, especially in the 1980s, but only two three-terminal systems were realized. Since then, HVDC technology has advanced considerably and, despite numerous technical challenges, the realization of large-scale HVDC networks is now seriously discussed and considered. For the acceptance and reliability of these networks, the availability of HVDC circuit breakers CBs will be critical, making them one of the key enabling technologies.

Numerous ideas for HVDC breaker schemes have been published and patented, but no acceptable solution has been found to interrupt HVDC short-circuit currents. This paper aims to summarize the literature, especially that of the last two decades, on technology areas that are relevant to HVDC breakers. By comparing the mainly 20 years old, state-of-the art HVDC CBs to the new HVDC technology, existing discrepancies become evident. Areas where additional research and development are needed are identified and proposed. for the couple of well-known applications are discussed.

STATCOM A Review on Different Configurations and Topologies

Synchronous static compensators STATCOMs have been presented as a member of flexible alternating current transmission systems devices family in both distribution and transmission levels, namely distribution STATCOM and transmission STATCOM, respectively. These compensators have an important role in increasing the power quality in power systems because of having features investigated in various studies and because of the proper implementation of power functions, especially in compensating the voltage flicker. Studies on STATCOM can be categorized in two different parts.

The first part is about the various topologies of the electronic converters used in the compensator and different arrangements of the coupling transformers with the network, which can be named as the power part. The second part is about theorizing at the control level, which eventually ends in producing the proper gate signals to control the switching of the electronic power switches in the power part. Considering the fact that two comprehensive reviews on STATCOM have been published in 2002 and 2009, this paper based on the aforementioned categorization reviews the studies fulfilled in the field of synchronous static compensator, especially the relevant studies in recent years published in creditable journals. The paper makes connections among the control methods and compares the ideas about power stage from different perspectives, so that conducted studies will be organized in a systematic order.

Modelling and Control of STATCOM in Power System under Fault Conditions

This paper deals with compensation of frequently time-variable loads by means of 24 pulse STATCOM controllers. An different faults are considered as a heavily distributing load. The STATCOM system was used to ensure good power quality at the point of common coupling. For analysis of the system performance, the PSCAD EMTDC programme was applied. Simulation models of the load and two types of STATCOM controllers, 12-pulse and 24-pulse, are discussed in the paper. A MATLAB Simulink model of a measurement block is also proposed for power quality assessment. Some results of simulation are presented, which show the compensation effectiveness.
