Experimental Research on Power Quality Improvement using Capacitor Bank for 500 kVA Three Phase Transformer

This research is to improve the power quality for 500kVA three phase transformer using capacitor bank at Technological University Mandalay . The main purpose of installing a capacitor bank is to compensate the reactive power consumption and reduce the line losses for power quality improvement. The required value of capacitor bank rating for transformer is calculated in this paper. And then the results for loss reduction and reactive power compensation are also compared without and with capacitor bank. In this research, 150 kVAR of capacitor bank is installed to improve the power factor up to 0.99, to decrease reactive power from 138.47 to 0.75kVAR, apparent power from 169.47kVA to 101.93kVA, and percent loss reduction up to 69.14. So, the simple model of reactive power compensation with 150kVAR capacitor bank is helpful for 500 kVA transformer at Technological University Mandalay to reduce reactive power consumption.

Design of Earthing System for 230 kV High Voltage Substation by ETAP 12.6 Software

The design of earthing system for 230 kV substation is challenging task. A safety is one major concern in the operation and design of an electrical power system. This Paper is to provide information pertinent to safe earthing practice in substation design and to establish the safe limits of potential difference under normal and fault conditions. Substation earthing system design requires calculating of parameter such as touch and step voltage criteria for safety, grid resistance, maximum grid current, earth resistance, minimum conductor size and electrode size, maximum fault current level and soil resistivity. Soil resistivity is a major factor influencing substation grid design. In this paper, design of earthing grid for Square configuration to obtain the minimum cost and safety. Finally, simulation results were carried out using ETAP 12.6 software. This paper mentions the method proposed for substation earthing is in accordance with IEEE Std 80 2000.

Classroom Shared Whiteboard System using Multicast Protocol

Multiple hosts wish to receive the same data from one or more senders. Multicast routing defines extensions to IP routers to support broadcasting data in IP networks. Multicast data is sent and received at a multicast address which defines a group. Data is sent and received in multicast groups via routing trees from sender s to receivers. Demonstrative lectures require to share the computer screen of the lecturer to the students as well as to make discussion with the students. The Multicast protocol is the most suitable method because of its capability in speed and better synchronized process. The word multicast is typically used to refer to IP multicast which is often employed for streaming media, and Internet television applications.

Geotechnical Investigation of upper Keng Tawng Dam

There are four different types of geological formation and group. In western part of the project area, calcitic nature of Upper Plateau Limestone is found nearby north south trending intra formational fault. About two third of the mapped area is consisted of red coloured sandstone, siltstone, marl and conglomerate of Kalaw Formation in age of cretaceous. In centre of the formation, permo carboniferous aged Plateau Limestone, triassic aged Natteik Limestone and jurassic aged Loi An Group are exposed as inliers. The two formations, Natteik Limestone and Plateau Limestone, are cross cut by northeast trending faults interpreted with aerial photo analysis of the area. The project area lies within the Kalaw Formation. Five main types of rock mass classes are identified according to CRIEPI. They are CH, Cl, CM, CH and D class. The Lugeon values at the Upper Keng Tawng dam site area are less than 5 lugeon after the grouting. The main purposes of Tawng dam regional development The project electricity 51 MW and average energy in annual is 267 MWh.

Simulation and Results of Static Var Compensator for Electric Arc Furnace No 1 Iron and Steel Mill, Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar

Electric arc furnace is unbalanced, nonlinear and time varying loads, which can cause many problems in the power system. Voltage variation problem is the major focus of the power system because the loads can vary anytime. Power quality issue has a very high attractive for power system engineers and try to solve these problems by several effective ways. In this thesis, Static Var Compensator SVC, thyristor controlled reactor compensation with thyristor switched capacitor TCR TSC type is designed and its performance is simulated in the case studies. This unique design of this device SVC is used for reactive power compensation for nonlinear loads such as electric arc furnace EAF in an industrial plant. Moreover, the SVC is more effectively enhance the voltage stability. Single tuned passive harmonic filter can reduce total harmonic distortion THD caused by thyristor controlled reactor of SVC. The installation site for this thesis is No. 1 Iron and Steel Mill, Pyin Oo Lwin. And then, data is taken from this Steel Mill. Simulation results will be provided by using MATLAB SIMULINK.

RFID Based Vending Machine

The vending machine which provides the beverage like snacks, cold drink, it is also used for ticketing. These systems are operated on either coin or note or manually switch operated. This paper presents the system which operates not on coin or note, it operates on RFID system. This system gives the access through only RFID which avoid the misuse of machine. A small RFID reader is fitted on the machine. The identity card which contains RFID tag is given to each person. If the ID card owner wants to get some snacks, by showing the ID tag to the reader is the only way to get the desired snacks and the amount to money to pay will be deducted from the account.

Performance Analysis of Wireless Sensor Network in Smart Grid Environment

Wireless Sensor Networks WSNs is a strong candidate for smart grid applications, such as advanced metering infrastructure, demand response management, dynamic pricing, load control, electricity fraud detection, fault diagnostics, substation monitoring and control as well as automation of various elements of the power grid. The realization of these applications directly depends on efficiency of communication facilities among power grid elements. However, the harsh power grid environmental conditions with obstacles, noise, interference, and fading pose great challenges to reliability of these facilities to monitor and control the power grid. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate performance of WSNs in different power grid environments such as 500 kv substations, main power control room, and underground network transformer vaults. The power grid environments are modeled using a log normal shadowing path loss model channel with realistic parameters. The network is simulated and performance is evaluated using packet delivery ratio, communication delay, and energy consumption. The simulation results have revealed that different environments have considerable impacts on performance of WSNs which make it suitable for most applications that need low data rate with low reliability requirements.
