Influence of Blanching on the Drying Characteristics of Convective Hot Air Dried Aerial Yam

A research on the drying characteristics of aerial yam using convectional hot air was done. The raw unblanched and blanched samples were dried using convectional hot air. Fan speed, temperature and slice thickness were varied to determine the change in moisture content. The Fourier transform infrared FTIR and scanning electron microscopy SEM were done to determine the functional groups and surface morphology respectively for each sample. FTIR results revealed the presence of some important functional groups such as esters, ethers and nitro compounds, and shows that drying at this temperatures 40 70oC does not alter the nutrient components of this variety of yam. The SEM results showed that important cells were not destroyed at the drying temperature. Batch studies on the drying process also showed that increase in temperature and air speed increased the drying process, but decreases with increase in slice thickness. Effect of drying rate on the sample showed that drying rate increase with increase in temperature and air speed but decrease with increase in slice thickness. After 90 minutes of drying, the drying rate of the 2 mm slice thickness was 0.353 g g.min for drying of aerial yam while for 4 mm and 6 mm slice thickness, the drying rate were 0.261 and 0.169 g g.min respectively, for effect of drying rate on sample thickness. It showed also that blanched aerial yam sampleshad a higher drying rate than the unblanched aerial yam sample at the same conditions. Therefore, the economic advantages of this yam species can be optimized by blanching.

Use of Hybrid Nanofluid to Increase Heat Transfer Performance of Double Pipe Heat Exchanger using CFD

In present work, forced convection of a turbulent flow of, Al2O3 water nanofluid and Al Al2O3 water hybrid nanofluid a new advanced nanofluid composited of Al and Al2O3 nanoparticles through a double pipe heat exchanger is numerically analyzed. The solid model of the double pipe heat exchanger is created in design modular and analyzed by the computational software ANSYS 16.0.This work examines the effects of these two fluids as the working fluids, a wide range of Reynolds number 20000 = Re = 60000 and also the volume concentration 0.25 , and 0.5 on heat transfer and hydrodynamic performance. The finite volume discretization method is employed to solve the set of the governing equations. The results indicate that employing hybrid nanofluid improves the heat transfer rate with respect to nanofluid. However, the average increase of the average Nusselt number when compared to nanofluid in Al Al2O3 water hybrid nanofluid is 14 and the amount for the average increase of heat transfer coefficient would be 27.5.

Position Repeatability Test for Knife Gate Valves with Electro Pneumatic Positioners

Repeatability is an important characteristic of the measurement of faithfulness of the response of a system over a period of time. Be it mechanical or electronic equipment, over a certain period of time, there is a certain amount of hysteresis that sets in which renders the system incapable of carrying out its operation with the necessary precision. In applications that employ Knife Gate Valves to control the flow of lesser demanding solid particulate media like powders and fine mixtures, it is necessary that the positioners mounted on the valves display repeatability at all values of opening in every operating cycle. At least during the serviceable life of the valve, it is imperative of the positioner to ensure that hysteresis is not set in and that the internal mechanism is capable of yielding precise results. This paper shall consider four positioners mounted to Knife Gate Valves and subject the same to a repeatability test wherein the valves will be opened to a predetermined opening percentage for two cycles. The current input readings corresponding to these percentage openings shall be noted and graphs shall be plot to understand the repeatability behaviour. The mean values of current input readings for the four positioners shall be plot to determine the reproducibility of the experiment. A conclusion shall be drawn thereafter considering the experimental observations.

Failsafe Revival Test for Knife Gate Valves with Electro Pneumatic Positioners

Processing applications work on the principle of metered flow of working media to ensure accurate execution of the processes in the further stages. These may include food or raw material processing units that are highly concerned about the quantity of flow media passing through a given section in a given period of time. Foe specific applications, higher precision is required when it comes to the percentage of opening of the flow area as the same is directly proportional to the success of the process. In such cases, special accessories called positioners are used that can position the valve trim components to a desired extent to initiate the necessary percentage opening of flow. This paper shall focus on such positioners mounted on Knife Gate Valves and their ability to deliver precision in the opening percentage. The condition considered shall be that of a failsafe revival requirement wherein during operation, if there is failure of electric power or air supply, the valve shall act according to the set failsafe condition and once the electric power or air supply is restored, the valve opens to the same opening as it was before the said failure. This can clearly demonstrate the property of precision of the positioner. In order to ensure wider applicability, four such positioners shall be considerde and an experimental procedure shall be put forward and followed accordingly. The results obtained shall be described in the form of graphs and a conclusion shall be drawn accordingly towards the end.

A Drowsy Driver Detection System has been created, utilizing a non meddling machine Vision based absolutely ideas. The framework utilizes a touch monochrome surveillance camera that focuses Directly towards the drivers face and screens the drivers eyes along these lines on watch weakness. In Such a case once exhaustion is identified, an alarm is given to caution the main impetus. This Report depicts the gratitude to see the eyes, and together the gratitude to check if the eyes zone unit open or Closed. The algorithmic standard created is restrictive to any directly unconcealed papers, that was a Primary goal of the venture. The framework manages exploitation data acquired for the Binary form of the picture to go glancing out the edges of the face, that limits the domain of where the Eyes may exist. When the face region is discovered, the eyes zone unit found by registering the flat Averages at stretches the region. Taking into thought the data that eye locales at stretches the face blessing decent power changes, the eyes zone unit put by finding the various force changes at spans the face. When the eyes zone unit set, live the separations between the force changes at spans the consideration zone confirm whether or not the eyes region unit open or shut. AN outsized separation relates to Eye conclusion. On the off chance that the eyes region unit discovered shut for 5 back to back edges, the framework draws in the Conclusion that the main impetus is nodding off and gives an alarm. The framework is likewise ready to watch once the eyes can not be found, and works beneath modest lighting Conditions. here we will in general also track client live area on the off chance that any crisis shows up, at that point framework precisely send area to closest emergency clinic, police central command comparatively its individuals from the family. right now we will in general also notice client square measure alcoholic or not by abuse liquor police work sensors. Here we will say that our framework is extra affordable that current frameworks.
