Effect of Temperature and Humidity on Indoor Radon Concentration

Because radon gas is colorless and odorless, it is impossible for humans five senses to know whether one is exposed to it and as it is an inert gas that is nine times heavier than air it is prone to accumulation after being brought into the room through cracks in old buildings, connections and drains, thus creating indoor radon exposure problem. Although indoor radon concentration is related to indoor temperature and humidity, no research has been conducted to actually control indoor temperature and humidity, and to find out how changes in indoor temperature and relative humidity have affected indoor radon concentration. In this paper, we experimented with varying temperature and relative humidity respectively to certain conditions in the laboratory where the thermo hygrostat is installed, and using the results of the measured experiment, the relation between indoor temperature, and relative humidity and indoor radon concentration was explored.

A Deep Neural Framework for Continuous Sign Language Recognition by Iterative Training Survey

Sign Language SL is a medium of communication for physically disabled people. It is a gesture based language for communication of dumb and deaf people. These people communicate by using different actions of hands, where each different action means something. Sign language is the only way of conversation for deaf and dumb people. It is very difficult to understand this language for the common people. Hence sign language recognition has become an important task. There is a necessity for a translator to communicate with the world. Real time translator for sign language provides a medium to communicate with others. Previous methods employs sensor gloves, hat mounted cameras, armband etc. which has wearing difficulties and have noisy behaviour. To alleviate this problem, a real time gesture recognition system using Deep Learning DL is proposed. It enables to achieve improvements on the gesture recognition performance.

Recent Trends for Ash Disposal and Utilisation

In thermal power plant coal is being burnt and residue is left as ash. This ash is classified as bottom ash and fly ash. The ash generated below the furnace of thermal power plant is bottom ash which is around 20 of total ash and rest of 80 is fly ash. Bottom Ash is a coarse component of coal burnt ash and is not as useful as fly ash, because bottom ash remains toxic when recycled. But the fly ash when recycled, renders the toxic material and makes it safe for use. Fly Ash is a residue of coal combustion which is obtained from the coal based thermal power plant. It has been observed that the quality of ash produced is extremely good. They are fineness having low unburnt carbon and have high pozzolanic activity. It can be use as Pozzolana in manufacturing of building products like fly ash based bricks, cement, tiles, etc. It has advantage in agricultural industry as well as in the roads and embankment construction. The ash is a commodity that could help the company for producing wealth in long run if utilized in right direction. Fly ash is also considered as resource materials and the considerable amount of minerals can be extracted from it. This paper presents review on utilization of fly ash, that how it can be utilized in different applications, their properties and if proper utilization and disposal is not done, how it can affect our environment and life.

Satellite Image Classification with Deep Learning Survey

Satellite imagery is important for many applications including disaster response, law enforcement and environmental monitoring etc. These applications require the manual identification of objects in the imagery. Because the geographic area to be covered is very large and the analysts available to conduct the searches are few, thus an automation is required. Yet traditional object detection and classification algorithms are too inaccurate and unreliable to solve the problem. Deep learning is a part of broader family of machine learning methods that have shown promise for the automation of such tasks. It has achieved success in image understandi

ng by means that of convolutional neural networks. The problem of object and facility recognition in satellite imagery is considered. The system consists of an ensemble of convolutional neural networks and additional neural networks that integrate satellite metadata with image features.

Implementation of Low Cost Radon Measuring System for Air Quality Monitoring

Because inhaling radon and its radioactive decay products causes irradiation of lung tissue, the radon data obtained from houses and workplaces need to be transferred using Wi Fi and the Internet to a database on a radon monitoring server system. To do this, a PIN photodiode radon measuring system was implemented and the ESP8266 Wi Fi module was used for wireless communication. Through some experimental studies, we showed that the data transmission using these Wi Fi modules was very successful.

Structure, Biomass Carbon Stock and Sequestration Rate of Mangroves in the Bakassi Peninsula, S W Cameroon

The forest plays a major role in stabilizing increasing temperatures due to its climate mitigation capacity. This is not unconnected to the carbon storing and sequestration potentials of forests. The mangrove as one of the global forest types is said to be a major carbon store. This conclusion is characterized by some knowledge gaps on the actual carbon stock and sequestration potentials of some mangroves forest on the Central African Sub regional landscape. Some of these areas are the Bakassi mangroves in the South West Cameroon. Cross border conflicts, piracy and over exploitation have rendered the sourcing of appropriate data on its carbon stock and sequestration potentials difficult. In strive to bridge this knowledge gap, this work carried out a baseline assessment of the carbon stock and sequestration rate of the area. To achieve the study objectives, stratified random opportunistic sampling inventory design based on five forest canopy height classes, tree Diameter at Breast Height DBH and canopy nature using digital elevation model DEM of the shuttle Radar Topographic Mission SRTM . This combination evaluated the species type and forest structure around the areas. Carbon stocks were estimated with the use of allometric equations using biomass data collected within main plots, sub plots, micro plots and transects. Results showed that mean biomass carbon stock density for the height classes for Bakassi ranged from 33.5 Mg ha to 598.9Mg ha. Thus on average, for a hectare in Bakassi, the carbon stock is 880.437 Mg ha and a sequestration rate of 3231.204 tCO2e ha .

Bubble Wrap The Key to a New Floating Solar Thermal System

Solar Thermal Energy STE is a form of energy and a technology for harnessing solar energy to generate thermal energy or electrical energy for industries and to desalinate water and to treat waste water, among other things. Here we demonstrate a floating solar receiver which is capable of generating 1000C steam under ambient air conditions without optical concentration. Here the high temperatures are achieved by using thermal concentration and heat localization. This reduces the convective, conductive and radiative heat losses. This demonstration of a low cost and scalable solar vapour generator holds the promise of significantly for expanding the application domain and reducing the cost of solar thermal systems.
