Performance Evaluation of the Effect of pH and Temperature on the Biogas Yield of Co-Digestion of Pig Manure and Water Hyacinth

In this research work, the effect of pH and temperature on the biogas yield of co-digestion of Pig manure and water hyacinth were investigated experimentally in laboratory scale anaerobic bioreactors. The co-digestion was run for a Hydraulic Retention Time thirty six days. The volumetric yield of biogas was noted once there is biogas build up at regular intervals using water displacement method. A total of ten evacuations were made and the data obtained was used to evaluate the effect of the aforementioned anaerobic digestion parameters. The experimental results revealed that a neutral pH value of 7 yielded optimum biogas yields compared to a pH value above and below 7. Moreover, from all the experimental mesophilic temperature used in this research work, an optimum mesophilic temperature of 37 oC favoured the optimum biogas yield.

Smart Water Monitoring System using Cloud Service

Water is the basic need for survival. Hence, the wastage of it is not tolerable. Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet water needs within a region. Its effects are spread all over the world and around 2.8 billion people are affected by it. More than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water. Therefore, water monitoring has become an important subject of matter. The project Water Monitoring System for Smart Village using cloud service, as the name says it is all about monitoring of water right from small villages, townships to entire urban infrastructure.

The project deals with the efficient monitoring of water using Internet of Things IoT technology enabled by sensors. The sensor network can be flexible expanded and shrunk according to the requirements of setup. It is used for remotely controlling the water flow, cutting the water supply, monitoring and analyzing the water usage across the nodes, with the help of cloud connectivity. Further, more statistical data can be gathered and can be used by govt. authorities for defining policies, strategies and billing calculations. So ultimately, this will help to conserve and efficiently utilize the natural resource. Using IoT takes into account of waste wastage right from small village to large scale. It can also control the water usage in a precise way.

Automatic Parking Monitoring System using IOT

With the increase in world population, vehicle production, giant industrialization and slow paced city development more and more parking spaces and facilities are required. With the advancement in technology now we can relate technology with our normal parking system resulting a development of a new era of parking system called as smart parking system. In this paper a new parking system called smart parking system to assist drivers to find vacant spaces in short time. This parking system works in two phases. In 1st phase the detection of vehicles in various parking slots using various sensors takes place, while the 2nd phase aimed at communicating the collected data to user remotely. The SPS provide various advantages including vacant parking space detection, improper parking detection, payment methods

Smart Home Automation using Wi-Fi

This paper aims to design an Advanced home automation system using normal web server and Wi-Fi technology. The devices can be switched ON OFF and sensors can be read using a Personal Computer PC through Wi-Fi. This paper helps to develop a home automation system that gives the user complete control over all remotely controllable aspects of his or her home. The automation system will have the ability to be controlled from a central host PC, the Internet, and also remotely accessed via a Pocket PC with a Windows Mobile based application.

A Review on Green Technology Material Processing Through Microwave Energy

To meet the demand of to days of industry, it has become necessary to develop the new processing and manufacturing techniques. These new techniques need to reduce the cost and enhance the properties. These new developed methods should be suited for all types of materials. Microwave processing is a new technology which can be applied to wide variety of materials. The microwave energy can be used for material joining, cladding, coatings etc. The microwave processing is economical and materials processed have better mechanical properties with lesser defects than the conventional methods. In this review paper, the recent published work on microwave joining is briefly summarized.

Seismic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction under a Bridge Pier Due to Chauk Earthquake Excitation of 0.12g to 0.5g

In this study, seismic analysis of soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier are studied with different earthquake excitations. In 2016, August 25, a magnitude of 6.8 happened near Bagan region. Pakokku Bridge, the longest of the bridges over the Irrawaddy, is situated on 37.8 miles from the epicentre of 2016 Chauk earthquake. That is why the safety performance of long-span Bridge Pakokku Bridge especially for the safety of the foundation system subjected to soil-foundation interaction is necessary to investigate for unexpected future seismic excitation. Firstly super structural loadings on the pile cap are estimated by using STAAD PRO V8i.

And then, p-y curves are determined by Reese 1974 method for the static and National Cooperative Highway Research Program NCHRP for dynamic conditions. Based on the development of p-y curves, theoretical ultimate soil resistance pcr and pcd due to wedge and flow failure are determined to produce critical depth xcr. After that, finite element software ABAQUS is used for the analysis of soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier in static condition.

And then, the behaviour of soil foundation interaction under a bridge pier is carried out due to Chauk earthquake. In this study, the behaviour of soil-foundation interaction such as deflections and settlements are produced. According to the analysis results in static condition, it is found that the vertical and horizontal displacements at the pile tip are 2.28mm and 0.14mm respectively. In dynamic condition, the vertical and horizontal displacements at the pile tip are 3mm and 2.94mm are found at 0.12g.

After that, maximum ground acceleration of 0.5g is 14.5mm and 2.94mm in horizontal and vertical displacement of pile tip. Maximum shear stress and strain are found out the base of the pile cap. Finally it is found that the soil-foundation interaction under a bridge pier during earthquake motions presented in this study is reliable and reasonable with the limitation of AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges.

Application of Geographic Information System GIS For Urban Renewal A Case Study of Yelwan Tudu of Bauchi State, Nigeria

Urban renewal has been regarded as a sound approach to promoting land values and improving environmental quality. An urban renewal programs is supposed to address undesirable urban conditions. However, the real problem in this regard is that the determination of the level of substandard situations that can be considered undesirable is usually based on planning standards and varies from place to place and time to time. This study attempts to review the general concept of urban renewal and various approaches. It highlights the existing physical and socio-economic characteristics of the study area.

To establish how urban renewal programs can be achieved simultaneously using GIS .The methodology included digital mapping techniques, ground survey to establish the factors responsible for deterioration in the study area, conversion of surveyed data into digital form as attribute of the spatial data variables considered and query of each variables to show individual conditions in the study area. The results obtained showed that GIS easily allowed the linking of spatial data with attribute data based on which queries and spatial analysis carried out. The level of deterioration is determined using weighted index analysis method of identifying a slum, thus major rehabilitation is suggested as the best approach for the study area. Finally, a renewal plan is proposed as way of solving the identified problems in the study area.
