Identifying Motivational and Demotivational Factors in Qatar Construction Project Management Practices

Motivation is one of the factors that influence the productivity of people. Project Managers, Engineers and Laborers, play a vital role in the management of projects in a Qatar Construction Industry QCI . The success of these projects relies profoundly on their active participation and effective performance. Hence it is important to assess the impact of motivation and demotivation on the performance. The broad objective of this work is to assess the impact of motivation and demotivation in QCI. The specific objective of this paper is identifying the key factors that cause motivation and de motivation in QCI. Literature review, survey with expert opinion and semi structured interviews were conducted to identify these factors. Using these factors to conduct specific motivational programmes will help in improving the productivity of people on a project.

Determining Coefficient of Discharge and Coefficient of Roughness for Short Grass Bed and Concrete Bed

This study carried out to determine the coefficient of discharge and coefficient of roughness for short grass bed and concrete bed in an open channel at Hydraulics laboratory. The open channel on the hydraulic bench is intended to depict an actual open channel flow scenario therefore steady flow was used for this experiment. From the investigation, it was evident that coefficient of discharge for grass bed and concrete bed ranges between 0.00218 and 0.0539. The slope of the channel was found to have no effect on coefficient of discharge. Manning’s Roughness Coefficient “n” was found to increase with the decrease of discharge. Concrete bed has higher coefficient of discharge and lower coefficient of roughness when compared to short grass.

Review of Green Building Index GBI in Malaysia

In recent years, global warming has been a major issue in every country all over the world which has yet to be resolved. World Development Indicator states, the amounts of carbon emission in Malaysia are increasing at an uncontrollable rate especially near the end of Year 2014 with a rate of 8 metric tons per capita. This rate lead to the implementation of greener approach towards industrial sector which includes the construction industry. Green Building Index GBI is the green rating tool recognized by the Malaysian construction industry to promote sustainability in the built environment. It is developed specifically for the Malaysian tropical climate by Persatuan Arkitek M
alaysia PAM and Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia ACEM . Energy is becoming one of the most critical and important aspect to the nation, countries with high percentage of energy and resources is considered powerful as nowadays energy and resources of the country is key measurement for its power and development. The overall study indicated that there is an increase in sustainable construction in current Malaysian construction industry with respect to the GBI standards. This increase should be maintained to ensure all future buildings in Malaysia should follow the standards set by GBI.

A Review on Fuzzy Sets Uncertainty Modeling In Expert Systems

Expert systems are well known area of artificial intelligence and have a huge impact in various fields of life. It has been widely used in managing uncertainty and vague information, which models the ability of humans to make rational decisions. One of the challenges that expert system faced is to deal with uncertainty. Even though there are many uncertainties management approaches which can deal with problems of different types. This paper reviews the trends and general information regarding the expert systems in order to highlight, classify the different approaches in terms of the applications and target area of problem solving. The concepts and techniques used in the development of selected expert systems have discussed which are medical, agriculture, and education. These can serve as a guide in selecting suitable expert systems in their area of problem solving. It is concluded that while expert systems have great potential, they remain un established as a useful technology due to a lack of research and documentation.

Performance Evaluation of International Airline Websites Quality using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process Model

Statistics play a critical role in any modern use of technology in science and industry. Statistical concepts and methods are developed and applied in the information technology industry for various problems. In order to monitor the quality of products, to plan effective and efficient designs to improve standards, to test and analyze the quality of items produced. The increased attention paid to these problems and accompanying new statistical methodologies, has created an active and valuable new area of research application industrial statistics. There is a statistical mechanism for measuring the effects of the web page component towards the performance and quality of the website. Every web page design has their own characterib stics and this characteristic has drawbacks and benefits. This study focuses on evaluating the quality of international airline websites with sample of five airways. Examined many dimensions of quality, and each dimension has been measured by specific online test using a series of diagnostic tools. The authors propose a methodology for evaluating the airline website quality based on fuzzy analytical hierarchy process model FAHPM . The result of this study confirmed that more effort is required to meet with these criteria in the context of website design.

Green Sustainability Development for Industry Internet of Things in Railway Transportation Industry

Since the railway industry has become the primary consideration for technology upgrade, there is also the issue of the technology being green and sustainable. There is no global sustainability policies when the railway industry’s technology is being upgraded. There is a need for a strategy to ensure that the upgrade, especially with IIoT, is implemented. The research aims to analyse the current situation of green sustainability in business technologies to develop sustainability policies appropriate to business processes where emerging technologies are applied or implemented in the future and to create a strategic plan for green and sustainable development of emerging business technologies. The study is limited to green sustainability development of IIoT that is being used in the railroad transportation industry of Malaysia, its MRT, LRT and monorail. A proposed strategic plan will be developed to ensure a green and sustainable development for the Malaysian Railway Industry. The paper will be an in depth study of the Malaysian railway industry in conjunction with the application of IIoT and sustainable development is to be done.

Reduced Dimension Lane Detection Method

Detecting road lane is one of the key processes in vision based driving assistance system and autonomous vehicle system. The main purpose of the lane detection process is to estimate car position relative to the lane so that it can provide a warning to the driver if the car starts departing the lane. This process is useful not only to enhance safe driving but also in self driving car system. A novel approach to lane detection method using image processing techniques is presented in this research.

The method minimizes the complexity of computation by the use of prior knowledge of color, intensity and the shape of the lane marks. By using prior knowledge, the detection process requires only two different analyses which are pixel intensity analysis and color component analysis. The method starts with searching a strong pair of edges along the horizontal line of road image. Once the strong edge is detected the process continues with color analysis on pixels that lie between the edges to check whether the pixels belong to a lane or not. The process is repeated for different positions of horizontal lines covering the road image. The method was successfully tested on selected 20 road images collected from internet.
