Enhancement of Strength Characteristics of Poorly Graded Soil by Flyash and Cement

Fly Ash is the waste material, which is obtained after burning coal in Thermal Power Plants. It can be used as a stabilizer for soil due to its pozzolanic effect or an inherent self-hardening property under favourable conditions of moisture and compaction. This project aims at increasing the strength of poorly graded soils by using Fly Ash and cement as admixtures. Some percentage of Fly Ash without any additives was utilized so as to reduce the cost of construction and this is a good method for disposal of it. Fly Ash was added in various percentages like 10, 20, 30 and 40 percentages by volume .

Initially all basic Geotechnical properties of the soil such as liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit, Grain Size Analysis, Specific Gravity, Free Swell Index, Unconfined Compressive Strength, OMC and MDD were determined. Later on the stabilized mixes were tested for CBR California Bearing Ratio which is an indirect measurement of strength. After the detailed experimental investigation it is observed that 30 addition of Fly Ash has shown maximum strengths, so that to obtain much more strengths cement was added in 2, 5, 8 and 10 percentages to this optimum mix of Fly Ash with soil.

After that the soil mixes were tested for CBR California Bearing Ratio to check it's feasibility in Flexible Pavement constructions. The strengths were checked in both Unsoaked and soaked conditions and at various curing periods like 7 and 28 Days. Among all proportions 30 Fly Ash 8 of the cement has shown maximum strengths, so that it was decided as optimum mix. Maximum strengths were obtained at 28 days curing period for all proportions of mixes so that this period is decided as optimum curing period. Eventually this project work facilitates an economical, strong and durable construction material for Flexible Pavements.

Artificial Intelligence Basics and Terminology

The Artificial intelligence field continues to be plagued by what can only be described as 'bold promises for the future syndrome'. Research in AI has built upon the tools and techniques of many different disciplines, including formal logic, probability theory, decision theory, management science, linguistic philosophy. However, the application of these disciplines in artificial intelligence has necessitated the development of many enhancements and extensions. Since the invention of computers or machines, their capability to perform various tasks went on growing exponentially. Humans have developed the power of computer systems in terms of their diverse working domains, their increasing speed and reducing size with respect to time.

Study on Alternative Fuels for Compression Ignition Engines

This review paper studies potential alternative fuels for automobile engine application for compression ignition CI engines. Diesel engines are favorable for use due to its fuel consumption and higher torque. Nowadays, we are facing the difficulties of crisis of fossil fuels due to rapid increase in demand of it in automobiles and industries. The use of fossil fuels further leads to environmental degradation by polluting the air. Hence, in the present era, more importance is given on alternative source of energy for running the engines. The representative alternative fuels for CI engines include biodiesel, di-methyl ether DME , and jet propellent-8 JP-8 .

Naphtha can be also used as an alternative fuel for advanced combustion in premixed charge compression ignition. The production methods, storage characteristics, and the supply chain of each alternative fuel are discussed, and are followed by concentrating the attention on the main research topics for the mentioned alternative fuels. Literature survey investigates on relative advantages and disadvantages of alternative fuels for application to engine combustion.

The engine combustion study consists of the combustion process from spray development, air-fuel mixing characteristics, to the final combustion product formation, which are studied for each alternative fuel. An overview is obtained for alternative fuels together with summaries of engine combustion characteristics for each fuel, in addition to its current status and future scopes.

Characteristic Behaviour of Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites A Review

This paper presents a summary of work reported on Aluminium metal matrix composites with different reinforcements. Aluminium metal matrix has growing demand in aircraft, automotive and other industries due to its light weight, high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance and workability. The work is done by reviewed of research Papers, Articles, Magazines, references books etc. The present work focus on mechanical properties and surface texture of aluminum matrix composites AMCs reinforced by silicon carbide, fly ash, TiO2, graphene and B4C and with different wt by using stir casting technique.

Each reinforced material has an individual property which when added improves the properties of the base alloy. Effect of different reinforcement on AMCs on the microstructure analyses and mechanical properties like tensile strength, hardness, density, electrical resistivity and wear behaviour is also discussed in detail. Major applications of different AMCs are also highlighted in this work.

A Preliminary Study on Aerated Geopolymer using Calcium Carbide

In this paper a preliminary study is conducted on use of calcium carbide as an aerator in geopolymer paste and mortar. A 12 mole sodium hydroxide with sodium silicate solution was mixed with fly ash in 1 2 ratio to create geopolymer paste. To make mortar, graded sand was used as 3- parts with 1-part paste. Calcium carbide was added in various percentages viz 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and 5 to paste as first trial and mortar as second trial. Calcium carbide reacts with water to produce acetylene gas and heat.

Acetylene gas works as aerator and heat developed helps in ambient curing of geopolymer paste and mortar. The mixes are cast into cubes of 50sqcm and properties such as density, water absorption and compressive strength were evaluated. The 3 calcium carbide paste showed less density, more water absorption and less compressive strength. The mortar's density was hovering around 1800kg m3, water absorption was less than paste and compressive strength was maximum for 4 calcium carbide.

Studies on Nano Cellulose Century Fiber Composites

Nano cellulose composites are used for advanced applications for structural parts and electronic components. Biocompatible water soluble cellulose composites are used in medical applications as well. Nano cellulose fibers are extracted through various chemical and mechanical treatments to separate the cellulose and to further refine it. Composites are made using thermosetting polyester resin and biodegradable poly vinyl PVA .

A research work is proposed in this paper for extraction of lignocellulose and nano cellulose fibers from century plant and developing the composites for evaluation of TGA, DSC, DMA, dielectric, tensile, flexural, impact, hardness and hygroscopic properties. Applications for the composites will be suggested based on the the properties of the composites.
