Comparative Study on Effect of Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash on Strength of Concrete

The construction of concrete pavement is growing across the country due to its strength, durability, better serviceability & overall economy in long run. The need is to develop better quality pavement sections, which can bear heavy loads. This can be achieved by using high compressive strength concrete (>40MPa) made up of hydraulic cement having fine & course aggregates. In the work embodied construction work is done with the help of wastage from industry.

Fly ash is a by-product of burned coal from thermal plants and Rice husk ash is the by-product of burned rice husk from paper plant. Considerably Fly ash and Rice husk ash are used as supplementary cementing materials to improve the properties of cement concrete. The present study is done to develop pavement quality concrete by partially replacement cement with Fly Ash & Rice Husk Ash. The aim of study is to compare the strength characterises of pavement concrete which as achieved by concrete mixtures.

The work done in this study shows the effects on the behaviour of concrete produced from cement with combination of FA and RHA at different proportions on the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength. The replacement of cement were done at three levels is 10%, 20% and 30% with both Fly ash & Rice husk ash as well as combination of both Fly ash and Rice husk ash.

The tests on hardened concrete were destructive in nature which includes compressive test on cube for size (150 x 150 x 150 mm) at 7 and 28 days of curing as per IS: 516 1959, Flexural strength on beam (150 x 150 x700 mm) at 28 days of curing as per IS: 516 1959. The samples were prepared with different water-cement ratio as 0.30, 0.35 & 0.40 for flexure design i.e. 5.5 MPa, 5.0 MPa & 4.5 MPa respectively.

The result so obtained showed that it is possible to achieve saving in cement if replacement is done. The study proves to be beneficial in area where traffic load is less, also will use wastage released from thermal plants & rice mills also reduces economy as this materials is easily available. The waste material from industries is in bulk amount, as lesser amount of these used as supplementary cementing materials so these can be used as filling soil in subgrade of highway pavement.

Fast Modular Multiplication using Parallel Prefix Adder

Public key cryptography applications involve use of large integer arithmetic operations which are compute intensive in term of power, delay and area. Modular multiplication, which is frequently, used most resource hungry block. Generally, last stage of modular multiplication is implemented by using carry propagate adder whose long carry chain takes more time.
In this paper, modulo multiplication architectures using Carry Save and Kogge-Stone parallel prefix adder are presented to reduce this problem. Proposed implementations are faster as compared to conventional carry save adder and carry propagate adder implementations.

MAC: Protocols for Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks and their Comparision

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) deliver smart communication paradigm which can set up intelligent networks handling all the applications as per the user requirements. The WSNs offer several advantages like flexibility, fault tolerance, low cost and easy deployment. Typically, a WSN consists of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions.

These sensors generate report over the network on the occurrence of any event. For a WSN to provide better reliability and improved lifetime, an efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol design holds a paramount importance. Several multichannel MAC protocols exist which performs better than the single channel protocols.

The MAC layer coordinates transmission between the users sharing a spectrum and improves the throughput and energy efficiency. Cognitive Radio (CR) is an adaptive, intelligent radio and network technology that can automatically detect available channels in a wireless spectrum and make those channels available for concurrent transmissions.

Dynamic spectrum access in the form of cognitive radio provides spectrum efficient communication for all WSNs which led to the development of Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks (CRSNs). This paper highlights an intensive survey of MAC protocols defined for WSNs and the design of Cognitive Radio based WSNs.

Effect of Lime on Engineering Properties of Cohesive Soil

Soil is a unique natural material and the properties of soils can be altered by adding stabilizing agents such as lime. Lime is the oldest traditional stabilizer used for soil stabilization. Lime is one of the several products that can be used in the improvement of the engineering characteristics of soils. This research presents the effect of lime on engineering properties of cohesive soil. In order to identify and classify this soil, at first physical properties of soil are determined.

And then, mechanical property tests are conducted. Next, lime is added to natural soils. Lime contents are selected as 4%, 6% and 8% by weight of natural soils. The plasticity index decrease with increasing the percentage of lime content. Soil is mixed with selected lime contents at their maximum dry density. In cohesive soil, the more the lime content, the more the cohesion. The lowest value of cohesion is 0.59 kgcm2 at lime 4% and it increases according to lime content. The percentage of lime increased, CBR value is also increased.

Review on Congestion Control Algorithm for VANET

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), which is a subclass of Mobile ad hoc networks, have recently been developed as a standard means of communication among moving vehicles because it has tremendous potential to improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency. VANET applications have the characteristics such as fast change of topology, bandwidth limitation and lack of central coordination that causes network congestion which restricts the network performance.

Number of solutions proposed to overcome these challenges and to reduce congestion on VANET. These solutions include congestion control algorithms, some of them based on maintaining the beacon load below certain threshold value by adjusting transmit power or transmit rate or both. And others are based on utility function, carrier sense threshold, prioritization or a combination of them.

Hence, this study takes a closer look at existing congestion control algorithms to solve congestion problems because it affects the performance of safety messages. The study further exposes the weaknesses and advantages of some of these congestion control algorithms, which can be helpful to tackle with the problems of congestions in VANETs.

A Research Paper on Design and Analysis of Shaftless Steam Turbine

Shaftless Steam Turbine consists of a Double row spherical roller bearing, the outer race of which is provided with a tight fit ring. The periphery of the ring forms base for mounting rotor blades. The inner race is fixed by a suitable arrangement. A hollow frustum tapered cone whose larger diameter is fastened to outer race ring and smaller consists of a flange which couples with generator shaft. The cone transmits the rotational motion of the rotor. A nozzle provides sufficient enthalpy drop to the turbine.
