Study and Application of Watershed Management Techniques for Self Reliant Village (KHOR BASIN)

Land, water and vegetation are the three basic resources of the life support system. The effective conservation and management of land, water and vegetation resources aimed at obtaining optimum and sustained return from these resources without degrading them can be achieved by adopting watershed as basic unit of development. Watershed being a natural hydrological entity, it responds most effectively to various engineering, biological and cultural treatments. Monitoring of runoff and silt at the outlet of the watershed can help assess the impact of various treatments aimed at conserving soil and water, and protecting vegetation.

A Review: Graphene A Key Material in Engineering and Medical Field

Graphene is found to be a versatile material having its applications near about in every field. The Paper gives an insight about the different properties of graphene and its uses in various aspects of research. The fields of particularly engineering and medical are discussed in the paper. The review has found that graphene has a good electrical, desalination, Bio medical, mechanical, thermal, optical properties. Also the it is found that doping of graphene or its derivatives like Graphene oxide (GO) on semi-conductor materials improved superconductive property, enhanced capacitance values, Power conversion efficiency (PCE) in case of schottky diodes.

Results also describes that graphene has good performance for water desalination with 100% salt rejection for defect ratio of < 0.5 (i.e for small pore size) along with many factors governing the salt rejection which is discussed in the paper. Removal of radioactive materials by graphene oxide has been studied and found to absorb up to certain limits. Graphene is also a better biomedical tool against bacterias, cancer cells and it could be used for drug delivery, bio sensing, bio imaging and in many more fields.

Processor Design Using 32 Bit Single Precision Floating Point Unit

The floating point operations have discovered concentrated applications in the various different fields for the necessities for high precision operation because of its incredible dynamic range, high exactness and simple operation rules. High accuracy is needed for the design and research of the floating point processing units. With the expanding necessities for the floating point operations for the fast high speed data signal processing and the logical operation, the requirements for the high-speed hardware floating point arithmetic units have turned out to be increasingly requesting.

The ALU is a standout amongst the most essential segments in a processor, and is ordinarily the piece of the processor that is outlined first. In this paper, a fast IEEE754-compliant 32-bit floating point arithmetic unit designed using VHDL code has been presented and all operations of addition got tested on Xilinx and verified successfully.

Design of multi -band dual linear polarized microstrip antenna for remote sensing applications

The design of triple '“ band L1/L5/S dual linear polarized microstrip antenna is simulated and presented. The triple band is designed as one antenna for dual '“ band L1/L5 with dual '“ linear polarization and a shared aperture antenna for single S band dual -linear polarization behaviour. The performance of the designed antenna was compute using HFSS. The antenna is designed to fulfill the remote sensing requirements, where multi band dual -polarization is required.

A New Weir Cum Causeway Design of Varachha Site under Surat Smart City Project

Weir is a solid structure constructed across the river to raise the water level in the river flow. We proposed two sites: Amroli(FRL=4.0m) and Varachha (FRL=4.0m &5.0m). The maximum FRL of Varachha site has to be about 5.0m used in design. We desired that the feasibility of keeping FRL 5.0 to get a water storage as well as wider and longer pond so, we selected Varachha site. We have selected L33-R33 section on river Tapi is safe for our design and no large afflux create on it.

To calculated a design discharge and return period factor for 50 years for Varachha site. According to the model studies, the discharge 12,00,000 cusecs, 34000 TCM design given and calculate silt factor is 1.2 and the design discharge is 24,000 cumec. We given hydraulic design based on IS code 6966 (Part-1):1989 Hydraulic Design Of Barrages And Weirs-Guidelines. Weir length was 450m, crest level 8m, crest width 10m. We providing 16 nos. Of Automatic gates (5 x3.5m).

Hydraulic design given in two parts: (1)Floor Length Weir bays calculation and (2) Under sluice calculation 100% discharge calculation considered as per IS code 6966 (Part-1):1989 calculated H.F.L 14.10m. The weir may be combined with a submersible bridge, it's solve a traffic of this Varachha site and to make ease of 24x7 potable drinking water for varachha region people. The water also available for industry uses and other activities.

Productivity Improvement using Lean Manufacturing '“ A Case Study at Muththamizh Industries

At the present scenario, the Lean Manufacturing has become a worldwide phenomenon. A large number of organizations are following Lean technologies and experiencing vast improvement in quality, production, customer service and profitability. Muththamizh industries in Palani is a manufacturing company that manufactures variety of agricultural oriented machines. In this work to adopt the Lean manufacturing concept in this industry by using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) technique and to reduce the wastes such as long lead time, defects, material waste etc.

Our project focuses on creating current and future state value stream maps which, when implemented will decrease the current lead time of manufacturing thereby improving the productivity of industrial shop floor. From their products, the team chose Chaff cutter machine as a product family and worked on them. From the Current Value Stream Map created the lead time for the product is found to be 3 to 3.34 days right from the processing of raw materials till the product is ready to be shipped. From the map created, various stages that contains bottlenecks in production were clearly identified and remedial measures were taken to eliminate those bottlenecks.

Various lean tools such as Kaizen Bursts, 5S and other methods to eliminate the wastes were identified and implemented effectively. After remedial measures were adopted the data is tracked again and Future Value Stream Map is drawn. From the map it was clear that the lead time for the product was reduced to a certain extent of up to 4 hours. Therefore our primary goal of the object was achieved by adopting lean techniques and the productivity and efficiency of the organization was increased.

Effect of carbon dioxide on the performance of Spark Ignition Engine by Hydrogen Inject with Biogas Fuel

Methane and carbon dioxide are the two main constituents of biogas. One of the reasons of poor combustion is the presence of carbon dioxide in the biogas. Biogas also has traces of nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and hydrogen sulphide. Because of a high investment cost and a heavy infrastructure, only fifty percent of the biogas production upgrades (decrease CO2%) by use of water scrubber. so the natural gas replacement is very low. This experiment is conducted on modified single cylinder 97.5cc petrol engine, to work it as a biogas-hydrogen fuel spark ignition engine.

Hydrogen added in small amounts by HHO generator (hydroxy) kit to decrease concentration of CO2 in biogas power and find out the effect of CO2 on the performance. The experimental results show that the large quantity of CO2 present in biogas lowers its calorific value, flame velocity and flammability range compared with natural gas. So it can be utilized in an IC engine with the hydrogen.
