Experimental Study on Voided Biaxial Slab and its Application

Slab is largest member which consumes concrete. If the load acting on the slab is large or clear span between columns is more, the thickness of slab increases. It leads to consume more material such as concrete and steel due to this, self-weight of slab is increased. To avoid these disadvantages voided slab system is used. Reinforced concrete slab with plastic voids is a new and innovative type of construction.

It is developed to allow for lighter self-weight of the structure while maintaining similar load carrying capacity of a solid slab. High density polyethylene (HDPE) hollow spheres replace the ineffective concrete from the centre of the slab and decrease the dead load. The advantages are less energy consumption both in production and transport, less emission of exhaust gases from production and transport, especially CO2 and reduce the material, the load, lower the cost and it is also a Green Technology. The Bubble deck slab floor system can be used for storey, roof and ground floor slabs. The effect is to decrease the overall weight by as much as 35% when compared to a solid slab of the same bearing capacity.

Performance and Emission Studies of a Diesel Engine Fuelled with Different Jatropha Biodiesel Blends

The ever increasing number of automobiles has led to increasing in demand for petroleum fuels. The environment degradation and depletion of fossil fuels are another reason to search the replacement of this fossil fuel. Biodiesel can become an attractive choice because it is renewable, non-toxic, environmental friendly. The objective of the present research work is to investigate the use of Jatropha biodiesel (JB) and fuel derived from pyrolysis of waste tires (WTDL) in diesel engine as a replacement of diesel in certain amount.

The JB and WTDL were blended with diesel (5, 10, 15 and 20% by volume) and experiments have been conducted in a single cylinder, four stroke, air cooled diesel engine. The brake thermal efficiency of the blend was found to be lower than diesel. However, hydrocarbon emission and smoke opacity were found to be lower with blend (up to 10%) than diesel operation.

The nitric oxide emissions of blend were higher than diesel. In view of comparable engine performance and reduction in most of the engine emissions, it can be concluded that blend which contained 10% JB, 10% WTDL and 80% diesel can be be used as a potential fuel for diesel engine operation without any engine modification.

Performance of Fuel Electronic Injection Engine Systems

Electronic Fuel Injection systems are very important components in today's automotive industry. Its use on modern engines allows manufactures to develop new engine designs while increasing engine efficiency and lowering fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions. EFI systems also increased engine reliability by providing a smooth start and run under most weather conditions. This paper presents the state-of-the-art of direct fuel injection in spark-ignition (SI) engines, the current technology to make possible its accomplishment, the characteristics of the engines using this system and a comparative experimental study between this system

Modelling of Circular Footing on Lateritic Soil

This work modelled circular footing on lateritic soil. This was done by studying the relationship between bearing capacity of circular footing and fines content of lateritic soil. Lateritic soil samples were collected and subjected to laboratory tests, including tests leading to the determination of bearing capacity (using circular footing). Bearing capacity was determined for the natural soil samples.

The samples were separated into fines and coarse components and later remoulded in varying proportions of fines: coarse content, from 0:100 in 10% increments. Bearing capacity was computed for all the remoulded soil samples. Regression analysis was then used to determine the relationship between the bearing capacity of circular footing and fines content of the soil. The model was found to be valid for the selected locations.

Optimization of Anaerobic Mechanism using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to treat Pulp and Paper Industry Wastewater : A Review

Optimization plays a key role in environmental engineering parameters since the best system performance mainly is on optimum point or optimum range. The majority of wastewater treatment processes are multi-variable and optimization through the classical method is inflexible, unreliable and time-consuming.

Thus, response surface methodology (RSM), as a very efficient design and widely used technique, can be adapted for optimization of various parameters in wastewater treatment processes. RSM is a practical mathematical and statistical tool that can be employed for analyzing the effects of several independent factors on the treatment process in order to obtain the maximum benefit from the process.

Recently, several water and wastewater treatment processes have been optimized for treatment different type of wastewaters via RSM including; textile dye wastewater, tannery wastewater, industrial paint wastewater, landfill leachate, olive oil wastewater, and palm oil mill effluent. The present study focuses on the usability and effectiveness of RSM for process parameters modeling and optimization in wastewater treatment studies.

In this paper, some of the RSM studies were reviewed in order to verify the usability of RSM and its limitations.

Multi-Joint Robot Transfer System in Three Dimensional Space

Transfer system in three-dimensional space, the use of multi-joint robot arm provides much flexibility. To realize quick point-to-point motion with minimal sloshing in such system, we propose an integrated framework of trajectory planning and sloshing suppression. The robot motion is decomposed into translational motion of the robot wrist and rotational motion of the robot hand to ensure the upright orientation of the liquid container. The trajectory planning for the translational motion is based on cubic spline optimization with free via points that produces smooth trajectory in joint space while it still allows obstacle avoidance in task space.

Input shaping technique is applied in the task space to suppress the motion induced sloshing, which is modeled as spherical pendulum with moving support. It has been found through simulations and experiments that the proposed approach is effective in generating quick motion with low amount of sloshing.

Emotion Classification and Detection

Energy-in-Motion is symbol of living hoods. This Energy-in '“Motion is also knows as emotion. Digitization and Globalization change our traditional ways of living .This change are not only in physical but also physiological and hence , new generation is in a dilemma of unfit and unequipped also this generation is has not a mental and physical strength to face and handle the emotional phases in for example stress or negative emotion . Now everyone is a part of race of success, from day one of school students enters in a world of in competition and stress.

From the Kids to the youth are in stress of examination. Kids are missing there childhood. To bring their original age on their face is a need of understanding, Communication between the parents, teachers and friends. Right actions at right time can pull out them from the stress.. Hence researchers are working with this area of stress management. For our research work we simply tried to build a system '˜Emotion Analysis using Rule base system.' Which can help to detect and classify the emotions?
